I recently acquired an NX1 used from a fellow forum member and I have been testing out the Gamma DR and Luminance settings since my NX500 didn't have any of that.

For this test I was using,

Gamma DR

Sharpening -10

Saturation +2

Master Black +15

Luminance 16-235

All shots are handheld with the 16-50 PZ. Sorry for the shakyness and lack of artistic shots. I was just walking around looking for really high contrast scenes to see what the camera could do.

With the contrast being so high in post all I had to do was pull the blacks just a touch. Nothing was clipped but it wasn't a squashed waveform either. So in high contrast bright sunlight I know these are my ideal settings!

Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions for maximizing high contrast shooting.

Maybe there is some green tint so I would put hue to -3° to purple, but it is just my opinion.

Thank you for this test - I will give it try!

Sincere Thanks.

Most of your shadows would be black to the eye with that blue sky and bright sun.

Will give your settings a try as soon as possible.

A great and useful post!

I probably could have gone a little lower on the blacks and shadows, but I wanted to show how much detail it retained!

Terrific DR Test!!

It's amazing to see highlights and shadow details intact in such contrasty conditions!

I'm also using your same settings, but with saturation at -4 (I try to match the picture to what I see in the scene).

Just shot this a couple of days ago for a client:

Best viewed on a desktop computer, as Youtube has restrictions regarding mobile devices, as I used two copyrighted songs in the video.

I am using the 50-150 S lens, which has OIS, and with DIS in my NX1, gives almost rock steady video.

I also used the 20-50 kit lens for the wide shots, and DIS helped immensely.

To combat shakiness, I'd suggest you switch on DIS ... it works very well.

Ppl all for tx2 should see this :-)
