I'm considering a Leica "T" but I am a little concerned on the future of the "T" mount cameras and lens selection. Anyone have a view on the"T" future?

This is a wrong information.

The T mount has been renamed TL mount after the launch of the Leica SL. It is not discontinued.

Both Leica SL and Leica T cameras share the same mount. The difference is that Leica SL lenses cover a full frame sensor area while Leica T lenses cover an APSC image circle.

Simply put : you can use and switch lenses within these two different bodies if you want.

About the future of the Leica T : I think there is like 4 to 5 lenses now. They just launched a 35 summilux lens for the T. I think there is already plenty of lenses from wide to bright to long. I don't really see what to need more except maybe one or two more primes for portrait or a bright wide ?

The future is now. Just enjoy your camera and lenses already available.

You can still use M lenses on your T if you need a special purpose lens that is not available in TL mount.

This is the wrong information. The T now ships with the new and improved L mount. There is no "TL" mount.

Leica speaks about the T/TL mount lenses here: https://us.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-SL/Lenses

Where can we find the Leica L mount on their website?

Fine. They seemed a bit confused themselves at the beginning what to call the mount. TL and SL now refer to the lenses. But that was not the point of my reply.

@OP with this S-Adapter "TL" you can even use S lenses with the T. Beware, though, it is not advised to mount the body to a tripod with an S lens attached to it.

Thanks everyone all info is helpful. I wonder if there will ever be a replacement for the "T", a "T2" possibly?

However, they do not speak about a 'TL mount' they only speak of 'TL mount lenses' and 'Leica T lenses'. And 'Leica SL lens mount'. Once you add the word 'lenses' into the description, you don't talk about the mount alone anymore, you talk about lenses that (a) cover a certain sensor size and (b) fit on a certain mount.

If you want, the Leica SL lens mount is compatible with Leica TL mount lenses and vice versa (the Leica T lens mount is compatible with Leica SL lenses).

They go to great length to avoid the phrase 'L mount', though an 'L mount' + 'TL lenses'/'SL lenses' would make so much sense.

Terry, my bet is "Yes"! Leica has a fix lens full frame (Q), and an "Interchangeable" full frame (SL). As for APSC sensor, they have a fix lens (X series) and an "Interchangeable" (T). They are also extending lenses that would be compatible with T and SL, calling them TL. Therefore, I think, (at least I hope) that an APSC interchangeable lens camera would be continued. I have no idea what the name would be, but it seems logical to me that it would not be ended. Maybe T2; or TL; or TX, etc...

I have been using T for a year now and I can assure you it is a fantastic little camera. I am using it only with my old Nikoor lenses via an adaptor and I am very satisfied of the result. If you wish, you can also check the T forum on LUF:

Thanks for your input. If you scroll down under Technical Data (link below) they do mention the L-Mount. So let's assume that's what it's called for the T now as well even though as you say under the section for the T it's nowhere to be found.

The mount is sound. The lenses are very good, if not as special as some might like to believe. It is by no means limited to the shape and ergonomics of the current body. The Sony A6300 beats the current body in just about every conceivable way, with the exception of the quality of the native lenses, which matters somewhat.

You can mount a native T lens on SL and works and the SL lens on T and it works - although Vario-SL AF becomes slower on T, but it works interchangeably, which implies that the mount is the same or whatever it is called.

The mount is like SONY's E mount that supports APS-C and also supports FF, as it is on current T and SL. However, as expensive as T is, I think it would make a lot more sense to turn the new T (or at least a version of it) to be a FF model - so it really works as a 2nd body for the M lenses, while retaining the exact camera body - just change electronic internally. Battery can be a challenge, but it is already not a small battery anyway, and using M lenses would not require power. Then the upper-end T can still use all the native APS-C T lenses without problem and should take some pressure out of Leica to consider to build a rich range of lenses for T model.
