So I found recently that when I went to get pics off the CF with adapter the comptuer didn't recognize the card or thought it was corrupted, no problem, was super old adapter, so i bought a new transcend one. Now it's doing the same thing so I thought hey, I'll just connect it USB to the computer however it doesn't see it properly.

When I connect and turn the camera on it just shows under Other Devices in Device manager, can't find a suitable driver for it and i haven't found one on Canon's website. So how do I get the pictures off orrrrr am I boned?

I'm also running win 10 64 bit, was able to get the pics off the CF with adapter before. I even tried doing that regedit thing and using the eos utility updater but that doesn't recognize the camera (probably because the driver itself cannot be found)

I used to have a 300D until I finally upgraded to a T5i. There is a witch that you need to set in the old 300D in order for it to be readable to the newer versions of windows, I can't seem to recall anything about the switch in the firmware that you need to set since it has been a while since I used the 300D, however suffice it to say the switch is in the firmware and there are forums on the internet that will tell you what you need to do.
you are a beepbooping life saver

uninstalled the device from the computer, set the communication in the camera from Normal to PTP, plugged back into computer and turned camera on and Windows detected it and was able to access the pictures. sure it's slow but it's better than nothing.

Have you tried different cards? and have you tried a different computer?

Are you concerned about the specific pictures on this card or just getting everything working for future picture taking?

I connect by USB cable, turn the camera on. Open Windows File Explorer and it shows me Canon Camera at the bottom of the list of "drives" etc. Click on Canon Camera. Open folders until you see files, copy files to your computer. Easy. None of the software solutions work all that well. Also, plug the USB into the same port every time. Good luck.

I have same problem with my Canon and Panasonic cards. Win 10 usually is fixed by a reboot. Seems better since latest updates though. Always use the remove hardware tool or it can mess up again after not using it and pulling a card out.

The slowness is something you are going to have to live with its due to the technology in the 300d which uses USB ver 1 technology. If you upgrade to the newest generation of Rebel's coming this spring to an electronics store near you, then you will get to use the newest USB 3.1 technology and will be able to transfer your photos an light speed.
