The other topic reached its limit.

Outerbeat, thx, there is something wrong with my camera, then. Tomorrow I'll try again but I'm 100% sure I used your same settings. When I fully depress shutter it focuses again :-(

I think there also might be a setting in menu that related to AF, release, priority or something, which I didn't know about, just simple as that. Please post here results of your test when ready, so guys can release new version with right implementation

Sorry for a little off topic... Tecnoworld, there's a private message for you. Thanks!

OK, I tested over and over.

Nothing to do. Any settings tried, but always, when I fully depress shutter, it refocuses before taking the shot.

I do like this:

1) turn on TBBAF from menu (or shortcut, tried both)

2) press AFon while aiming towards a near object

3) release AFon

4) aim a far object

5) fully press shutter button

6) the camera fastly refocuses (the image gets brighter for a second, and the focus square turns green) and takes the image

Among 5 and 6, on a side note, if I half press shutter nothing happens (so half shutter is correctly disabled).

I have the 16-50s lens on, do you have another lens? I didn't try with another one.

It is good that you found the posting from Jan, he explained well all the background.

My only question is: Why are people not willing to live with the fact, that your finger has to stay on AF-ON until the shutter is released. For me this is much more logical and easier for my fingers, than pushing EV+x+y and so on. The fact that the dials are not working is not really an issue. You can choose the aperture and shutter speed before.

I will make test tonight with the newest version and the 16-50S to compare with your result.

OK, I'll try with an example.

Baseball match. I press AF on on the hitter ONCE, and when I know the action takes place, I'll fire a burst. The shooting will be immediate since the camera won't have to refocus. At the same time, if I want occasionally to focus on anything else, I can do in a heartbeat (while if I turn to manual focus, I'll have each time to turn af on again).

Same with any other sport, but also many other situations when I simply don't want to focus each time since I already know what I want to be in focus and what not.

Keeping the finger on for several minutes is simply not practical.

Did you tried AF Release Priority setting? For me it triggered the "TBBAF" thing I think.

yes! I have it on release priority. Tried also focus priority (both accuracy and speed), but result is the same. I even tried disabling e-shutter (first curtain), and changing several other options, but shutter always triggers the AF, no matter what I do.

There must be something wrong, unless my NX1 is "different" in something related to hw.

I'm totally puzzled.

isn't this dangerous? I mean...in case the cameras were slightly different in hw?

just tried with 45mm. Same behaviour.

:(

I usually would use BBAF with CAF... in which case keeping my finger on the AF-ON is going to keep focusing, which is not what I want. But I do want CAF for when the bird takes to the air again.

you are both with NX1, and with the same Firmware
so it can't be a "difference" between them,

and since we use two files to check them against each other, the risk of file-corruption is (in practice) imho - zero.

but again, just saying it's possible and it's always best to set your own settings, as you will know what you have set, otherwise you may get it to work, but not know how or why.

"AF on" is set to "AF start"?

last resort - send him your "preset0_up" (1 and 2) files,

and he can load the exact setup you have
Just what I was going to propose! You read thoghts. I see vasile can read minds too - he suggest in old thread "AF release" also, even before I tried this.

Let me get home and I send files

Here is my EV+UP and EV+DOWN presets both have the same working TBBAF settings. Put "presets" folder out rar to the sdcard root and do the "load prifile" from the hack menu

Please note, that TBBAF for some reason better work when you focus at first on long distance object and move camera to near position without focusing - so camera doesn't refocus to near position. When you first focused on near position and try TBBAF with far - sometimes it's refocus on far, Can't say why, but I think it has nothing to do with the hack, it's camera default feature. But from far to near - works great and after that - works with near-to-far

Same behavior as your camera. When I stored the AF point with the AF-ON button this works. Now I push the shutter (half), no focus action, when I complete the shutter it refocus the scene.

When I observe a photo, pushing the shutter does not activate the "take picture" mode.

Did ypu try with outerbeat's presets? I'm away from home and can't try for now.

No, I did not, I did not saw his posting. But I started all the test with near on afon and then shutter with a far object. I will try again in half an hour.
