Sharpest lens on the market regardless of mount?

Do you mean with the Canon at f/4? Or the Olympus at f/2.8?

They are both very sharp lenses, but there are so many variables in which they differ that comparing them is a little silly (if even possible). But I suppose so is this thread :)

Yes it is silly but whatever. f4 is largest aperture on the olympus 300mm f4 so if you want you can compare it to the canon 300mm f4 . Is it possible to crown one of them the king ?

Is it possible to crown one of them the king ?
Yes... but of different kingdoms.

Kingdom of resolution ofcourse. That is what the silly thread is about. To crown the most sharp lens for some reason. The olympus 300 f4 is king, right ?

No, No, NO!

That cannot, must not be!

Don't you know that there must be a single one which is absolutely, without doubt the bestest (TM)?

If you say there isn't, you make little baby DPR member cry!

PS: If you (the generic reader) happen to find - and take objection to - the sarcasm in the above... well, ... :-)

We'll know for sure when there is a 50Mp sensor for m4/3 (which who knows... could be next year).

We don't need that, we need someone with a GX8, canon adapter, good focusing skills and access to these two lenses. That is all we need.

That would test for the sharpest lens on a GX8. It would not test for the sharpest lens on a 5DSr, for such a contest I would guess the Canon would win, certainly the Canon will be sharper on a 5DSr than on a GX8.

It's a fair test . Why don't someone test lenses like this ?

20MP resolution on m4/3 will do the job .

The problem is only that you assume too much and try to fix it with a lack of humor.

Don't you understand satire ?

Probably better than you understand sarcasm?

Well, if you are really stretching you question to include all camera/projector lenses, then the sharpest are probably the lenses made for semiconductor chip fabrication which have resolutions in the region of 10,000 lines per mm or more (good camera lenses are rarely much more than 200 lp/mm).

Ofcourse. The sharpest lens is not on the consumer market.

Maybe the hubbles telescope is sharp enough for the OP ?
