I am probably missing something, but I'm constantly finding that the focus point on my G5X has moved to another location on the screen from center. I have to use the touch screen to move it back, so that is not the problem. I like to focus and recompose,so really have no reason to change it from center. Any way to set it to stay centered ?

Thanks... carolyn

It also depends on mode. The focus point should not change from center unless you're shooting in full Auto or scene mode. As already mentioned, it should be off AiAF and set to 1-point or regardless of mode it will auto select focus points.

I also find this issue with my G3X, the touch screen is far more sensitive than G1XII.

Fairly sure OP is talking about something else. Yes, if you touch the screen, regardless of mode or focus point setting, this is where the camera will attempt to focus.

My point is a gentle unintended touch of the screen of my G3X will cause the focus point moving, unlike my G1XII.

The same for my G3X, I just disabled the touch screen. No more problems.

That always happens with my G16 when I have the AF Frame set to Face AiAf (face detect) in the menu. Check that first. I typically use "Flexizone" which keeps the focus point centered but allows me to move it where I want using the back dial if needed.
I think you have hit it. It was set on Face Detect, which I never have used, so must have done that inadvertently. I have it set accidentally. Will give this a try, and thanks a bunch for the alert !

I never use AUTO or Scene mode. I usually shoot in P or AV,and occasionally TV if my subject is in motion. Also always use 1-point.

I also think the problem may be that in going through my settingsj just now, I found "face detect" ON, (mentioned by Scruff above). I have no idea how I managed to do that, as I've never used it. but it is now changed to OFF now, so hopefully that was the problem.

There have been several good points made here and below... especially about the sensitive screen (made by NWT and Damian5000 below). I have also found that when your finger approaches the screen "head on", it is too easy to change a settomg inadvrtently, and best to approach the "Quick settings" from the side of the screen .

I thought of that too, but decided that would most likely also disable the Quick settings "touch". I'll give that a try if my inadvertent setting of "face detect" (which I now changed),doesnt' do the job. Thanks for the suggestion!!

Lots of good suggestions here to try !!
