I spent the weekend shooting with a 135/2.8 of yesteryears and I love that focal lenght. The lens is manual and its image quality is worth more than the 40$ I paid for it, but I couldn't help but wish it was a Fuji and could AF.

Fuji now offers a 50-140/2.8, but it is 995g and 1700 US$.

If we were offered a 135mm prime lens, which one would you want?

Neither,

I would buy the Fuji 90 mm, f 2.0 that is going to be available next year. This prime lens was announced at Photokina and they had a mock up. This lens is on the Fuji roadmap that can be found on their website

you should also read fuji rumors and view the interview Luminious Lanscape did as well.

Hi,

I didn't vote - there's no option that allows a 'neither' vote. I don't want a 135mm lens because it has the FOV of a 200mm on APSC. The 135mm FOV is met by a 90mm on APSC. We've already had a poll in this forum on 85-100mm lenses - I started one about three months ago with options of big/fast versus small/light versus zoom. In that poll, the small light prime option was slightly more popular than the large and fast option.

As Ryan said, if you want an AF lens with that FOV, Fuji has since announced that they're developing a 90mm f2. This appears on the road map for late 2015. They recently showed a mock up of it at Photokina that was subject to change. Some welcomed the prototype. Others thought it too big. I'm in the latter group - it had a 72mm filter ring and was bigger than many a FF 85mm f1.8.

I've learned that I appreciate OIS in Fuji's zooms and all the more so in longer FLs. I would be more interested in a 90mm telephoto lens if it was small and had OIS - so something a bit slower - maybe f2.4 or f2.8.

I would like a 135 mm (35mm), which means a 90 mm from Fuji. I think that would a natural step from my 18-55 zoom, or even from my 27mm. But, as Rod has mentioned several times here now, since I went to Fuji for small size and low weight, I was not very happy to see the mock-up in the images from Photokina.
Something more like this Voigtlander lens.

None, I have already a very good 180mm F/2.5 Prime. :-)

Why should I read about a 90mm lens when I'm interested in a 135?

Because 90mm APS-C is a 90+45 = 135mm equivalent focal lenght. It's not a bad recomendation.

135mm APS-C is an 135mm + 67,5 = 200mm equivalent focal lenght.

APS-C or Full Frame, all 135mm are amazing ones.

A good decision.

I've been aware of that for months. Even posted the first bunch of photos of the lens on this forum. A 90mm lens is not going to replace a 135mm lens. There is a very big difference between the two.

Maybe I didn't mention that I used a 135mm/2.8 over the weekend and loved it. I did it with a fuji camera which is not full frame. So the equivalent field of view was 200mm.

By the same logic I should also read about the 200mm lenses. The problem with that logic is that in this discussion and survey, the subject is lenses that have a focal lenght of 135mm. Not any kind of "same field of view" but for a different format. Fujifilm X interchangeable lens cameras have only one sensor size, it is 23.6 mm x 15.6 mm and 135mm lenses is what we are talking about in this post.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. In your OP you mentioned the 135s of yesteryear and loving the focal length. I happened to like the use of the 135mm in yesteryear and wrongly assumed that it was the FOV that you meant. My apologies. I suspect others thought the same.

No problem. Yes, others did assume the same and I was wondering why the confusion, but I guess not everyone is in the habit of using their Fuji to shoot a wide variety of lenses.
