I am interested in the SL1 with the 18-135 STM. I am a bit concerned about this combo is terms of handling. I would expect that the lens is somewhat large for the camera. If I add the battery grip, would the balance be acceptable? Should I consider one of the larger bodies?

I use the SL1 and 18-135 STM for hiking and skiing. The grip is a little small but when cradling the lens with my left hand (how I hold it when actually shooting), it feels just fine. Holding it by the grip when walking or putting it away, the grip feels too small.

I did not even know there was a battery grip for it. If you are considering that, you should just buy one of the other Rebels. The grip is far nicer and you get more functionality for about the same price. I don't think a battery grip would really improve the SL1.

It depends on what you want. The only reason to buy the SL1 over some of the other Rebel models is the small size - but that small size is why many of us love it. Once you add a battery grip then there's no reason to have an SL1.

I often walk around with the SL1 and the 55-250 attached, using a wrist strap on the body instead of a neck strap. (I use the Op/Tech system and can quickly attach a neck strap if I wish). I even use the SL1 with a 70-200 f2.8L IS attached - but then, what I really have is a lens with a camera attached, and that combination works quite well.

The base set up started with the "Uni Loop" version of the "Super Classic Strap." That puts two clip adapters directly on the camera and allows easy attachment of the neck strap or the "SLR Wrist Strap" (costs about $10). I also have, and sometimes use, the "Utility Sling strap" and even use the "Double Sling" when I want to carry two bodies. These all fit on the same clips/clips on the body, although I think I had to buy a pair of strap adapters for one of the straps to make it all work easily.

Any insults, implied anger, bad grammar and bad spelling, are entirely unintentionalal. Sorry.

Plus one on the wrist strap and SL1 Jeff. Mine is a Black Rapid. I can go to a full strap or carry double without changing anything

I'm not fond of the Black Rapid system - I don't like the way it attaches to the tripod mount and the high price. In my opinion, the Op/Tech system works much better and is certainly much cheaper. The attachment point for the Black Rapid wrist strap means that it will not be easy to grab the camera to start using it if it is hanging from the strap.
