I am looking for an alternative lens hood for the Sony FE 35mm lens, the standard one is the ALC-SH129, I've heard that I might be able to use the ALC-SH114 or the ALC-SH-131 from the FE 55mm lens, I am concern with the length of the hood that might cause shadows on the lens, any experience?, thanks

Both the 131 and the 114 can be used and don't cause shadows. Actually the 114 is made for the E24 1.8 lens with the same field of view (angle), so it should be perfect. The 131 is for the FE55, surprisingly it doesn't vignette as well. However it is longer and looks auto of balance on the small FE35, so I would go for the 114.

Alternative:

get one of those cheap but very well built metal screw on hoods first!

Here the link

I have this for my FE35 and it really looks very classic combined with the A7. I love the look of it and the functionality is there!

Thank you very much

Where does one buy the ALC-SH114? I've seen them used from KEH for about $45. There are knock-offs on eBay sometimes for about half that.

it work but it is truly big and ugly, if you have smal budjet you can find many alternative on: ebay.

the nicer one (to my eyes) is 49-58mm Step Up Ring, 58mm clear filter and Heliopan 58mm Short Metal Lenshood + one 58 cap .

the very best aternative for the fe 35mm za is this lens hood fror 4,20$ us, very solid and good looking.

I own this lens. May I ask why you want a different hood?

Fail to understand the need for a different hood when the original is so small and works so well

Let me explain: The FE + standard hood make a fabulous walk around combo for the A7. But when you want to put a 49mm polarizing filter on the lens to bring out the clouds and improve texture in morning and late afternoon light, the current hood is useless.

I keep a rubber 49mm lens shade in my bag with a Marumi thin CLP attached. When I want the polarizer, I just pop off the standard hood and screw on the filter/hood combo.

Because the rubber hood is round and large, you can easily adjust the filter for optimum polarization.

Try all that with the standard hood.

I'm after a replacement as mine fell off....seems pretty common with the original hood.

The prices are exorbitant, completely ridiculous.

Does anyone know where I could get one from?

I guess I would get one of these cheaper versions otherwise!!

I wonder as well. The hood that comes with the FE 35 2.8 is about as small and compact as a hood can ever get. I love it and, in fact, have used it on the FE 55 1.8. I can't imagine why someone would not want to use it. Yes, it may look unusual, but it works and fits with the compactness of the lens.
Sadly it vignettes at f1.8. Not a lot but enough to make this a very bad idea. Rubber hood gets my vote. They are great and come in at every price point. For a 35mm lens, you want a wide angle or very short rubber hood. B&W hoods are pretty short. Some of the longer hoods fold three ways but that's more fiddling, trying to get the extension only part way.

Came here trying to find out about delimitation of the finish but figured out that mine had been repainted. Easy fix.

Since I had the hood disassembled for examination, on filters, there is a 40.5mm thread on the front of the hood FWIW.
