Good-bye Sony. Until we meet again.

I understand your motivation...enjoy your new camera...and yes you have indeed sparked an interest in sharing why someone switches. I have no specific brand loyalty -

Mamiya 645, Mamiya Rb67, Toyo 4x5 Field, Canon d30, Canon d60, Canon 20d, Canon 5d, Canon M, Nikon d600, Nikon V1, Olympus e-M5, Sony 3N, Sony a7. I'm all over the map! Its my hobby and I am very fortunate to have a nice job and the means to pretty much do whatever I want with the hobby.

So I was very keen in explaining why I switched from the Oly E-M5 to the Sony brand (I replied earlier). Again, good luck with your new camera...above all, there is really no wrong choice.

Lots of people own different systems. Several systems. I was on a Sony forum in 2002 with my then-new DSC-F717. Loved it. Still own it. Until the iPhone made it unnecessary to do so, kept it in my car trunk, even after I went DSLR Nikon.

Never felt a need to say "good-bye" by telling the 2004 Sony forum I was leaving for Nikon.
It was my way of sparking the conversation with users here on why they love their Sony mirrorless cameras; why they switched from their previous system, what they like about the IQ and post processing ability, or why they moved away from Sony like I am now. I love hearing what my peers have to say about their systems and what advice or thoughts they have on my own move.

My sincerest apologies for insulting your personal sensibilities on what an appropriate post is. I can assure you that my switch to Olympus and sharing that information was a compulsion, not a compunction.
Then go to the Olympus forum and say "here am I, welcome me", what should I buy besides the body.

Anti-Sony Trolls get way too much play in the Sony forum. They should start a forum just for Anti-Sony Trolls, call it T-mount ...

I had trouble copying in your post, but I think above is what you meant to say. Please take your own advice and go to the Olympus Forum and bask in Oly lens glory.

Have a good night, don't bother replying.

Thanks. -Chuck

I bought the OMD and NEX7 on the same day. Still use the NEX7 but gave the Olympus away. The IQ of the NEX7 is superb and I can use my Canon lenses on it with the Metabones adapter. I sent the Olympus into service because it was a crazy camera to use. They had it for two months but said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Goodbye Olympus. Great LCD, though. A pity about the way that camera works.

When it is all said and done the A7R is the camera to get. Still enjoy using it and have the Metabones 3 to use my Canon glass.
I've got both the EM-5 and A7R. For me, they both serve different photographic situations.

It's quite obvious that A7R is not such speed monster that EM-5 can be. Shutter lag even with manual focus is too long (about 260ms) and framerate too slow for fast moving subjects (4 fps vs 9 fps).

IBIS works really well, and is really a must for hand held video. Much easier to get sharp photos without tripod with the EM-5. Focus point can be selected via touch screen which is very handy.

IQ is naturally better with the A7R.

Probably will when the time is right, Chuck. I don't mean to be anti-Sony at all with this post, and actually I love Sony as a company! They really dare to do what few others won't. I just feel that Olympus might end up being a better fit and wanted some Sony fan input. What is it you love so much about Sony's mirrorless cams? I'm interested in your take on the matter.

I go to the Sony forum that hosts the camera I own, not the one I left behind. I go there to learn more about how to use the camera I own, to be encouraged by posted photos using the camera I own, and to sometimes share photos of shots I've taken with the camera I own.

I don't go to where I no longer belong, because I sold the camera and now no longer belong.

Instead I go home to where I belong, to the forum of the camera I own. You would be wise to do the same. Enjoy.

I appreciate the civility and good humor in your dislike of my posts. I think it deserves a reply as much as the purely spiteful responses.

Sure, and I'm glad you could sense that humor was meant alongside my posting of maybe it's time to move on to your new home. Have a great photo shoot, every day you shoot. -Chuck

You are very rude individual.

Thank you for insulting me, twice no less, instead of simply moving on and avoiding a topic you obviously don't want to discuss.
It seems Mel touched the nerve accurately and precisely.

Mel appears to be a very well-mannered, affable and knowledgeable person with an ample supply of good common sense.

But there are people who go out of their way to trail their coat-tails. Then they express outrage that the tails have been stepped on. Having had the coat-tail behavior pointed out, they have nowhere to go but to immaturely accuse those who throw light on the practise as being rude! Tantrums!

As I said, accurate and precise.

I don't understand the negativity or segregation you're exhibiting. Why try to verbally kick me out of these forums because I switched formats and want to discuss it? Why join in the conversation just to tell me to leave? I'd love to have your opinion on the cameras, not your ridicule on my post. If you have nothing to add then I at least appreciated your wit, Chuck, and bid you a good night.

I'm sorry that you feel as though I've thrown a tantrum in response to Mr. Snyder's name calling and shaming. I made it perfectly clear that my intent of this thread was to hear Sony users opinions and experiences, just as I shared mine. He has decided not to participate from that point on, but I would prefer that to adding another insulting comment into the thread. Unfortunately, you too have not addressed me directly, but refer to me in the third person- I am very much here to receive your remarks.

There is nothing well-mannered about the way Mr. Snyder attacked my intention for posting or my personal character in the way I posted; that is called ad hominem if you're unaware, sir. I can't disagree the on the account of Mr. Snyder being affable, and I'm more than sure he's knowledgeable, he hasn't shown it past using word definitions to try and humiliate me.

If you have something you'd like to add that's actually in topic to this thread I'd love to hear it and discuss it further.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the dialogue on this thread and swapped their stories and opinions. I appreciate the detail and attempt to describe what you have experienced and seen with your current/ex systems in regard to Sony, Olympus, Canon, etc.
Some of you may have seen that others have decided to not be so academically civil in this Socratic style argument. While I'm still involved with this topic, I will continue to call out those with childish behavior, and encourage others to do the same.
If you don't want to contribute to the discussions of this post than DON'T POST. It will save us both time typing.
My apologies:

It was obviously a bad idea to address the negative comments that have been lobbed at the content of this thread. Every forum is different and I have to thank Chuck for pointing out that the Sony forum is not the best place to reveal your criticisms of the system, even if it's to get some Socratic feedback.

Thank you again to all of those who posted and created a dialogue with me. I very much appreciated your time. My apologies to those offended by this thread for whatever reason; I cannot make my intentions any clearer. I wish you well and hope the next time we meet on the forums we have amiable conversation- that includes Mel Snyder, Heavenisforreal, Dohmnuill, and osv.

This was an option I had considered actually- adapting glass from Canon to fit my needs seemed like a good compromise until I realized the price was astronomical for my budget. And then there's getting Sony glass when it became available for real AF and computerized functionality for the BEST pictures with that system. Those are some bad numbers for long term investment.
What is it you like or love about the NEX 7's IQ? I've seen many images from the A7r and think it's a wonderful camera, the lack of native lenses not being a problem for most people who buy it because they already have fantastic glass to adapt. Would you say the 7's IQ is comparable to your Canon gear? Or does is just work well enough for size and form?
With cameras the best strategy is to buy the best camera you can. You can always get lenses later. At the moment the A7R and D800E have the best sensors for 35mm photography. Any other camera will be disappointing compared to those two. The Canon 5DIII is a great all-rounder and cherished by many. However, thousands of photographers are waiting for a higher Mp Canon but where is it? In the meantime the Sony A7R delivers. Far superior IQ to any of my Canons. The NEX7 outperforms the 5DII for detail. I use the NEX7 with my telephotos for the reach. The focus peaking makes using the 500 F4 easier even when the wind is blowing. Now I find myself using the A7R and seldom anything else except my Sigma DP3Merrill.

I go for the sensor first, focusing second and worry about other things after those two are satisfactory. When you have a big collection of glass you really have to stay with a camera that allows you to use them. Hello, Sony A7R.

Well, I was all ready to reply with a big note, then I read your note at the bottom of this chain and figure I better change to a shorter version for the forum, slipped here where my other note would have gone. Maybe I'll send it to you offline. for fun and enjoyment, but filled with the real concern of posting on this forum. It is extra tense here on the E-mount forum for a reason. But it doesn't really change what good can still come from sharing photos and techniques. Maybe its time to get back to ignoring certain threads. Good shooting to you, especially when shooting yours (your family, that is). -Chuck

You already made the decision to switch so what is the point of asking everyone's opinion? Are you having a buyer's remorse? Anyway, you made a bad decision, your switched is more or less convoluted. You did not do your research very well. Just look at the sensor comparison http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Comp...(brand2)/Sony/(appareil3)/736|0/(brand3)/Sony
you are talking to someone who claims that he made a platform decision based on pictures that he saw on flickr.

if he's telling the truth, and he's not trolling, he's not going to understand what you posted, lol

I will keep a lookout for the eulogy when your unremitting love for your next brand fades away. These posts where the OP tries to then control and censor the responses are always great fun.

Nooo, please don't leave, we beg you, we'll miss you ... Is that what you expected to hear?

All those goodbye posts are so immature bordering on being childish. Grow up, nobody gives a d@mn.
And, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
