My name is Tristan Potter, and I'm looking for an SLR. My price range for a body is $200- $350. What would you recommend for me? perhaps a Canon Rebel ti? I am in high school, but plan on pursuing photography as a strong hobby or possibly a career. Thanks a lot.

I dont think I would personally get one, we havent gotten one in too test. But i've never been the biggest fan of Rebles. I would get a Canon EOS-A2 over that, which I have. Its much more sturdy. I think the bodies are around 350-400 now, but Im not completly sure, its been a long time since ive looked at the prices on em.

I happen to be a big fan of Canon Rebels. They are lightweight, compact, reliable, have the ever important partial metering, will take every Canon EOS lens with complete compatibility, and are a great starter camera. The Rebel Ti is the best Rebel yet, with a very nice layout and innovative features. Not a bad camera to start out with.

Hi Tristam, I just tried out a Rebel Ti and I gotta tell you, it is fast!! I use a Eos 3, Eos 7 and Eos D60 Canon and the Ti is as fast or faster then the Eos 3. ( I am speaking of it's auto focus speed). My daughter has had her Rebel for years and it has not failed her. So don't be afraid to buy one. I think it is a great camera to start with. Regards Roger

Agreed, and they turn more heads amongst photographers than the flashiest 1VHS - when you have one of these cheapo plastic marvels with L glass on the mount ;-) (in disbelief LOL)...

I have the EOS500N (Rebel-G) and OK, the powerwinder seems like it was lifted from a cheapo compact in noise and speed and it's a tacky silver colour, the plastic lens mount isn't very inspiring and the viewfinder is even dimmer than an E10 (is this better in the Ti ?) let alone a D30!. BUT slap L glass on it and Velvia in it and it'll take pictures as good as any other EOS..

BTW they totally ruined the otherwise great Elan-7 by not putting an AF light on it, it strobes it's lame flashgun flattening the batteries along the way, Shame otherwise it looks a great camera - I would have gone for the non-Eye control, I tried it on an EOS50E (Elan 2 - the POSH Rebel ;-) and found it little more than a gimmick..

Sooo, either go for the 300V (ti) or get a used 50E (elan-II) or even an EOS5 used.. you never know you might pick up a 300 (non-v) for a song, it's almost as good as the Ti

I have been playing around with them a lot at work. In this particular price range, it is a great camera, blowing away the maxxum 5, N65 in AF speed. The layout is really easy to use and for me, it fits well into my hand.

It is a great camera...but, if you have the money go for the Elan 7 body. Just a littel faster, and much better built.

I've had my Rebel Ti for a couple weeks now, and I love it. Great Camera!

These were taken with the Ti, and the standard 28-90 f4-5.6. I used a Tiffen Polarizer, and Kodak Portra 400VC film.
