No, as others have said, there is a lot of information floating around and its hard to interpret where the true source is. You on the other hand jumped in and had a good troll for yourself while I was trying to do nothing of the sort.

Troll harder next time though, it might work.

Yes, it is true - Canon has largely been using very similar 18mp sensors in their APS-C cameras for several years. But, it is a very good sensor design, and has proven itself thoroughly over that time. There is some indication that the edition in the 100D does have some quality tweaks, but I wouldn't expect miracles.

There's a good does of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" that goes along with this. Now, the rest of the world hasn't stood still, and there are other sensors that might exceed Canon's output in certain edge cases. And you can bet that Canon does have a new and improved technology coming eventually. But what we've got is still pretty darn good.

I purchased a 100D (SL1 actually) a couple of weeks ago thinking that it might be nice to go along with my other Canon bodies (5D MKIII, 7D) for situations where I didn't want to be tied down with equipment. I don't use it that much and have wondered at times if I made the right decision by buying it, but the thing is, everytime I do pick it up and use it, I am thankful that I did. It honestly is a joy to carry around. As far as its sensor goes and the images it produces, I am very happy. I really don't see much of any difference between what I get from it and what I get from the 7D. Sensor issues? Honestly, I don't see any. Do I get better looking images from the 5D MKIII? Well, yes but the difference isn't huge at all. I am very happy with it.

Well said, exactly my experience with the SL1.

I've read the reports that the 100D uses a thinner sensor, so the question is

1) Is it really the same as the 700D?

and

2) Is it a Canon Sensor?

Based on size and the fact I like to go hiking in my local area I was all ready to go out and buy a 100D but the sensor issues canon are having throw a spanner in the works.
Just what "sensor issues" is Canon having? Never heard of that before. Canon makes all their own dSLR image sensors.

With respect to iq it (the sl1) should equal or beat images from the 7D.
