Hi all,
I just made a tutorial of how I shoot time lapses with the Sony RX100. I would love any feedback, or to see what different methods people use to get time lapse video with this camera, since it has no "official" time lapse support.

Part 1 - Settings & Setup:

Part 2 - Post Production:

Dan,

Your video got me thinking about the kluge rubber bands you use! Has to be a better way...and there is....for $1.00. See my new thread for the answer.

Excellent shots! and very Interesting to look at.

Time lapse should be built in...absolutely...it's a CRIME that Sony holds something like a time lapse function back from the user.

For those that don't wanna deal with the rubber band:

If own a Sony camera that can be controlled via wifi, like the RX100 II, Nex-5R/5T, Nex-6, A5000, A6000, etc, there is an app in the Google Play store called "Time Lapse - Sony Camera", that can control the camera via wifi...so no rubber bands and such needed.

Also, Sony NEX cameras with wifi (except RX-100 II) can actually download an app...an app that get's installed into the camera itself...from the Sony Play Memories Store...that has very nice time lapse functions.

And finally, Sony cameras that have a "multi terminal", A3000, A6000 and others, can be controlled by a $30 gizmo off eBay (search "timer remote control") to make time lapse images.

Hi Dan,

I just bought a remote with intervalometer built in for RX100 m2, but I was wondering how long the battery lasts and if you know if I can keep taking photos while having a usb battery plugged in to keep it going for longer?

Thanks in advance,

Vlad

You can take pictures indefinitely if you have an external USB power source that can supply at least 1.5 or 2A of power - USB power bricks included. The problem is that you can't plug in external USB power and a remote at the same time.

What I've done is to buy a DC Coupler - a "dummy battery" that slides into the battery compartment and can connect to an AC adaptor. The DC Coupler has a DC power jack that the AC adaptor plugs into. The AC adapter is supposed to supply 3.6V, but I've found that you can wire a USB cable to the DC power jack and run the camera from a USB 5V supply. That leaves the USB jack free for the intervalometer, and as a result you can shoot timelapse shots of essentially unlimited duration. This thread has some more information.
