Besides the leather Leica skin that Portraitsofmanhattan posted, I got this case:

I had the Lowepro d-wrap for my S90 and loved it but it is too small for an RX100. This is the same idea although not quite as well made. It keeps it perfectly in my purse without taking up as much room as a boxy case. I have the wrist strap on it and looped a small carabiner through the string of the strap to clip to a belt loop if I don't want to carry my purse.

I probably tried a dozen cases. The only camera more difficult to get a good case for is the RX1.

1:- External Charger - Charging in camera is a massive pain.. Available there`s the ripoff Sony OEM BC-TRX one and very good copies of it (they look the same) as wel as the cheapo chinese chargers from £6 on E-Bay

2:- Richard Franiec Grip - totally transforms the handling like it did with the S90

3:- Spare battery - get a good one, Energizer, Hahnel, Ansmann etc

4:- Small case with battery compartment in the flap - no point in getting something big as it takes away the size of the cam - mine is a casio one which I got for the S90 but there are loads out there

AdamT - I agree with your four, but for me the ability to add filters is very important, so I have to add a fifth "essential" - one of the glue-on rings which allows the RX100 to use screw-in filters.

I used one of those quite happily on my Panasonic LX3, but somehow I found the location of the screw in the bottom of the RX100 didn't work with it (maybe I had to remove the entire thing to get out the SD card?). I ended up with this one:

You're right. SD card access is not possible. I think I will try your version! Thx.

Yes, filters are handy. I've gone with the Carryspeed MagFilter system, because the magnetic lens ring is barely noticeable, which allows you to still pocket the camera without snagging, and they also do a threaded adapter for conventional filters, so you can just magnetically clip them on and off very easily.

The Franiec grip is aluminium, not plastic; black-anodized, nickel-sealed aircraft-grade aluminium...

Very nice it is too :-)
Plastic or metal, either way I thought the Flipbac would have some give instead of being a hard material.

I think I would have been best off with the textured material. The flipbac is not at all soft, and pokes into the side of my middle finger. Not at all the nice subtle but secure grip that I had with the Canon S100's textured finish and minimal rubber piece. But, maybe I'll get more accustomed to it, and it _does_ make it much easier to take vertical shots, and much harder to drop the camera. Just wish it was a more subtle ridge. Whether the Franiec would be better I don't know. It adds a pretty substantial ridge, too.

Flipbac G3 not for large hands?

The Franiec looks fairly similar to the Flipbac in shape and size. I guess I'm lucky having small hands - I find the Franiec fits my grasp well.

Ideally, it would be nice to try out the different options before buying, but that's not easy to arrange!

I've been weighing the two systems, Lensmateonline vs Carryspeed. They both seem adequate, though I haven't seen either of them. The lensmate site states that their system protrudes 3mm beyond the camera ring. That seems minimal.

Yes, it is minimal. I would not let the size of the receiver that attaches to the camera be your deciding factor. Instead, choose based on what size filters you want to use and the appeal of the different methods of attaching the filter to the camera (magnetic vs bayonet).

I have used both systems and I think each has its pros and cons.
