Sony RX100 vs Canon S100 Size Comparison

Thanks for that comparison.
RX is small.
However S100 even smaller and flatter..

(rolls eyes heavily)

Had the OP bothered to read that original threads that this pic is from, it was pointed out that there is something obviously incorrect about the sizes in this pic.

The xz-1 and the rx100 are not the same size in reality, like they are in the pic.

The dpreview side by side shows the XZ-1 with the lens cap. A simple comparison with a ruler on the screen shows them to be of simliar dimensions. The flickr linked picture at full resolution shows some jaggies where the lens cap attaches -it has been edited out.

Fair enough. I read your post as the picture did not represent the dimensions of the RX100 vs the XZ-1 at all, especially with your sarcasm and rolly eyes. It only fails in the exclusion of the cap which modifies the thickness stowed.

Construction of a push cap would bring them closer together.

Given the MUCH larger sensor and faster lens on the RX100, some difference is to be expected. Now compare the RX100 to the G1X.
Given the MUCH larger sensor, the swivel screen, the flash hot shoe, the larger zoom, the external dials for direct access, some difference between RX100 and G1 X is to be expected.

Ultimately the RX is a bigger camera than the S, but the RX's main beauty is that it is only slightly bigger, for a much much bigger sensor, and possibly much much better image quality.
Can't wait to test it out in a few weeks time...

And that is the salient point. Based on the size of the Sony RX100, it appears the days of pencil eraser sized sensors are numbered! :)

Well, to be fair, that was kind of what I meant - if the size of one of the cameras is wrong, I assume there's a good chance some of the others are wrong as well...

I don't see any description detailing how this diagram was made...

Minimal size difference for a very notable step up in performance and IQ.
