* * * Challenge #186 -- Ell Composition * * *

this is harder than I thought... From the link it seems they are talking about anchoring the picture with an L along 2 borders - My first attempts are obvious L's (at least to me) but I think there is opportunity for finding L's that are a lot more subtle. Well, I got something in, but I think there must be better opportunity.

Sometimes when you really want a vacation, things happen. My back went totally out this morning for the first time in several years - took me 2-1/2 hours to get out of bed :(. It's not exactly how I wanted to get a breather from work, but you play the hand you're dealt, right? So, with a little help from percocet, I now have a second one in the comp. And three 'street' people shots in the X.

I know what that feels like. Fortunately it's been a while since I had any serious problem but these things seem to happen when you least expect them, give you trouble for a few weeks and then, hopefully, disappear as if by magic

Take care

Barry

Thanks, Barry. Yeah I've been through this before - I once conducted a seminar flat on my back in the conference. I've never cared if I looked silly in front of others, after all I look silly in the mirror every day :D.

That sucks! It really makes you aware of how interdependent all of the body parts are when one part does not work correctly. I hope you can get off the drugs and be back to normal soon. Do you just have to wait for it to heal itself, do exercises, or ?

Hope you are well soon,
brent

Yeah, my brain and my tongue have never really worked well together :D.

Thanks. I'm already de-doping and there are some gentle stretches that will eventually help - laying on the stomach and doing mini half pushups, letting the lower back relax and sag.

In the meantime, I got a third one in the comp, while rattling around in the house :)

This is a great idea Don. I don't know if you remember or if you had your Olympus C-8080 or were posting on OTF in 2007, but 5 years ago Typeaux, Tom Regner hosted an L-Comp Challenge in Oly Talk Forum. He had great explanations of what an L-composition was and several teaser examples in his Challenge thread posts back then. He tried to get us to guess what the theme was by posting examples. No one got it for a few days. Here's the OTF Challenge Gallery:

Well, don't bother looking for that May 5, 2007 posting. The teaser examples are no longer active links. Here's his description of the L-Composition, sans photos. Tom and his wife are both accomplished artists. Typeaux Tom is a writer and has a good sense of art and composition that made his Challenge interesting.
