My dream camera would be 24-36 MP's (you can always turn down the pixels), FF. Crop factor when needed with some what high MP's (built in tele is sweet), IQ of 6400 ISO at least, Live view, Pop up flash, Dual cards of the same! And no video.

Depends on the shoot. Sometimes you just know you are going to get a technically bad but possibly spectacular image and the camera is very likely going to be destroyed. Something cheap comes to mind.

The perfect camera is the Nikon F2A. Or the Mamiya RB67. Or the Leica M3. Or the Canon 5DII. Or the Nikon D3s. Or an 8x10 Calumet.

Facetious Answer.....The perfect digital camera only exists until it is actually made. Then the Mps, AF points, price, imaginary banding, lack of GPS, WIFI/Blue tooth/Blue Ray/Blue colour cast/Blue Channel/Blue Movie/White Balance/ makes the camera magically insufficient.

Perhaps each imaging company should make the exact same bare bones 10MP camera so people have nothing to snivel and bleat about anymore. And you can only EARN added features and accessories based on the quality of the images you can take.

Life is not a problem to be solved, but a mystery to be lived.

For me. Metal body the size of an old film camera with a grip (mirrorless, but with optical view finder). Full frame. Around 16MP. No live view, but I would like video (I am thinking of a really good travelling camera!) Stripped of all excessive options. I just want buttons for the important things: ISO, WB, focus, etc. Don't want all the excessive digital options such as:, HDR, shooting 30 pictures and then it selects the best 5, lab lab laah! Max 5 frames per second. And the most important thing is a decent FX lens that between 18mm-120mm. And an image quality that is similar to the D700. Pop-up flash is an extra.

in the smallest, lightest body possible, supported by a cadre of compact, fast prime lenses from super wide to moderate telephoto and a single wide-to-tele variable aperture compact normal zoom. And it must have an accurate, optical viewfinder of some kind and not rely on battery-hogging LCDs for viewing because I want superb battery life. Video and Live View aren't essential, but would be nice to have if the need should ever arise.

The perfect camera is any camera that you are completely comfortable with, are in full control, and know it inside and out well enough to always be able to predict and manage the results.

My perfect camera is the d700. I've owned it for 3 years, and I'm still thrilled every time I use it.

Family, mostly sports. Seriously, folks, I'm not that good. If I can do it, you can do it!

my relationship with my camera is strictly photonic

for me, it's a D700 - my D300 is collecting dust as are my DX lenses :-)

The perfect camera for me is the Nikon D3S. It meets all my photography needs and it is paid off. Unless something happens to my D3S, I won't have to spend anymore money on camera bodies for a long time, unless I want to.

My perfect camera would be customisable from the factory.

I would be able to go to my local outlet, pick the form factor (d700, d3or4, mirrorless). Then choose sensor mp, highest iso/ low light ability, DR, gps, wifi, video, auto HDR, auto pano, or, any feature/benefit/model variation, that I wish to pay for, just like ordering an automobile (paint, engine size, fuel type, sedan/wagon/4x4 etc) .
That way I choose how much "stuff" I need/can afford in a camera.

My choices would be something like a) combo S5 fuji/D4 Nikon in FF, 16mp is cool. this is a for work camera.

b) 30mp-50mp FF in a body size of d3100, reasonable AF,iso 25- 6400max (on a top plate dial), interchangable lenses, shutter & aperture controlled by front and back wheels (ala dxxx cameras), 2 card slots, smallish battery (dont want it too heavy). This would be my "play" camera, or, if the odd client needed huge files.
Not too hard is it....giving the customer what they want ??

p.s. side benefit to this would be (well maybe ?)....less whining about what features a new camera had or didn't have.

Xpro1 with the leaked lens roadmap only has to deliver on its promised IQ and my SLRs are on the market.

Remove all the electronics from a D4, mount it to the back of a 7" field monitor that has an LED Flash on the back of that. Redesign the D4 to the same size as the Nikon 1 series, connect the two together with a cable. Both pieces are absolutely useless without each other but link them together with an electrical umbilical-cord and voila!

(Well, you asked, so.....)
