There is a german dealer, who guarantees that there will be no 5DMKIII in 2011. If you buy a 5DMKII at this dealer and Canon announce a 5DMKIII in 2011, the dealer will take the camera back and you will get the full price back. Look at this - file: Users/peterschinzler/Desktop/shop.php.html

You want us to look at a file that is on your computer?

This is a lame joke, right?

Sounds about right. Probably in feb 2012 Canon will release the 650D/T4i with Digic V 21+MP with other cool features using that Digic V processor, and aside from sensor size, people will be scratching their heads wondering: "Why buy the 5DII over the T4i?" Then canon will release the 5DIII in Fall 2012, and that question will be answered. :-)

With funds in hand for a 5DIII right now, I won't be waiting for it until this time next year . I'll have enough funds for a 1D before too much longer, and I would probably spring for a new 1D model if they introduce one before spring. It kinda depends on the rumored upcomming "historic announcement".

If they piddle around and don't introduce any new FF before spring, I'm not sure what I will do. The technology is morphing so quickly right now that I'm not even going to think about more glass, because it's hard to tell what's in the pipeline, and I don't want to be any more heavily invested in glass if the "historic announcement" is something whacky like a full frame mirrorless that doesn't work with with existing lenses.

One thing is for sure IMO - they better not piddle around too much longer, and they better come up with something really good pretty quickly (ie: "historic announcement"), or the competition is going to leave Canon milking on hind teet with Kodak.

If a 5D mk3 were to come out then how many of those who return the mk2 to this shop for a refund woulld then buy the mk3 from them? just seems like a business taking a bit of a gamble to me without knowing any indepth info.

Who knows.... only Canon.

Translation: We don't actually know. We just want you to buy from us.

If this historic announcement is the one on Nov 3rd, I think conventional wisdom is that that announcement will concern the new line of EOS/PL mount cinema S35 size sensor video cameras that will compete with the Sony F100/Panny AF100 and possible Scarlet. I'm sure it will be exciting and historic, but not for stills guys.

Personally, if I were only a stills guy not interested in cine video, I would be quite pleased with the 5DII and T2i in their present incarnations. They are remarkable cameras as is. I'm not sure I'd even be antsy for an upgrade as a stills photographer.

I expect significant development on the video end on the next 5DIII & T4i. I will upgrade because of that.

I also don't think they will render lenses like the new 70-200 2.8L II obsolete. They are improving their L lens lineup. Just doesn't seem logical that they would discontinue it.

if they really knew for sure and had inside info they'd probably be breaking a NDA and already be out of business

They are on safe grounds without doubt! ;)

I don't know anything about the cinema scene, so I don't know if that would qualify as "historic". There's also a October 26th date that I've seen mentioned.

I agree, and I hope you're correct. At this point, I'm not doing anything until I see what happens after the two aforementioned dates, and at that point fall colors will be all but gone, and it won't kill me to wait until spring. Maybe get some new glass and/or a new monitor or something if nothing shakes out over the winter.
