SARs - Images of A77 confirmed as authentic (SR5)

Note the sloping shoulders of the A77 compared with the A700.

This makes it look more like a canon than an evolution from a KM body.

Jolly good thing.
Why is that a good thing?
let's be frank.
it may be subjective, but KM design (not the ergos) sucked big time.
they produced some of the most butt ugly camera bodies of the 21st century.
Frankly, you are talking out of your rear end!

Come on then Ralf, have at this attack... Or do you only do that when you disagree with the content?

The fact that a-mount lenses are still worth any money at all is thanks to the success of SLT.

A77 is just around the corner, I can almost smell it! Now the question is: are our lenses good enough for it? I might be wrong, but I understanding is that lesser lenses will show their weakness due to higher pixel density. On the other hand, older lenses on full frame like A900 are quite forgiven. So the pet theory is the APS-C demand much better (expensive) lenses, while more expensive FF body can take cheaper, lesser lenses and still achieve good result.
Well I have a CZ 16-80 and a 70-300G so if they aren't good enough we may as well all not bother.

I also have a Minolta 28mm F2 which I think should be fine.

The question mark will be over my 11-18 and 500mm mirror but then for me absolute sharpness has never been something I looked for in 11-18 photos (not that it isn't sharp enough) - it's the effect that lens gives and the 500 is pretty sharp anyway and it is its lower contrast people often mistake for lack of sharpness.

You do not hit a brick wall, even for diffraction. You'll get an imporvement in resolution using the 24MP sensor with all these lenses, but the degree of improvement will depend on lens quality and aperture.

What should really matter to someone who is using a tool is how that tool functions. Looks should simply not play much of a part IMO. It will look like it will look to function like it should.

And it looks like some older Minolta film camera too (at least from the front). Do people really care that much about how a camera looks? It must be those damn hormones in the food I guess.
Agree 100%. It amazes me the way some people place importance on something as useless as how the camera looks. On a scale of importance from 1-100 looks is a 1 while performance is 100. I guess some want to impress their friends.

One thing I like about the A55 is it's size allows me to access all controls on the back with my thumb without looking. I don't think I would be able to do that with the A77.

For two reasons, principally, one objective and one subjective. The objective reason is the similarities with canon will make it more attractive to people switching from that brand, which is a huge potential customer base.
You could equally say people who are looking to move away from a brand are looking for something different. Presumably they are disenchanted with what they have already so given Nikon is ergonomically very different than Canon maybe that is where they would go rather than to a brand adopting a "me too" approach.

I think the truth is more likely to be it has no bearing at all. People will evaluate all systems for what they offer not if they are similar or different to what they have now.
The subjective reason is that after three years of reading arrogant BS from a bunch of embittered old KM users I'm glad to see the last of the KM dna removed from the sony cameras.
Only an idiot would want to see the excellent ergonomics of older KM (and Sony) cameras dropped because of arguments on a forum :|

Sorry guys,

I haven't been checking on this topic for some time, but my last info was that the A77 announcement was expected July 7th. Did I miss something?

Is there any (reliable) date for the official announcement?

Ciao!

Current rumour is that in August.

Press might get to see it and 500mm f/4.5 SSM in the middle of August. Maybe we get more info then.

are playing copy cats for a part because of no ideas them selfs
A negative point of view we aren't used to from Marti. ;)
so if you make a model that looks very much like a bunch of showed camera's by others in this thread its a very original or new design ?
Where did you read it's very original?
i beg to differ.
From who again? ;)
its something special or different imo ... http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1037&message=38943504

It says it's different from previous Sony cameras. I see no reason to disagree. The poster found that a good thing. An opinion. I don't see any suggestion it's original or special in general (compared to Minolta, Canon and others).

It's one thing to care about the looks of a camera you're interested in (possibly buying), but who cares about what other cameras look like anyway?
Do you?
;)

reliable source can only be Sony itself.

On the other hand, that site has had the most reliable Sony rumors to date.

Sounds about right - as much to be excited about here as in all the rest combined. Though I'm going to have to put the colloquial speech in the head of the listener. - TF

You're right. We're missing out on all the threads about banding, noise artifacts, how crap the 60D is, bad focus tracking in the 1d series, fears about the pentax buyout, etc.

We're pretty lucky to be one of the few forums here to have something potentially ground-breaking to look forward to and chat about, I totally agree.

Or was your post meant as a criticism of some kind; maybe I missed the point?
