The Old Sailor ... hope you like it

Nice shot! I imagine someone on this forum will feel obligated to point out that you maybe posted this in the wrong forum but I myself couldn't care less about that. It is just nice to see that a so called 'obsolete' camera can still be used to take a very compelling portrait. I am interested in 2 things:
  • What lens did you use for this? The sharpness and colors are very nice.
  • Did the subject know you were taking his picture? You got what looks like a very natural look and the framing really works well for me as well.
I am NOT really a portrait shooter; I prefer landscape shooting myself, but I CAN appreciate when someone else pulls off a really nice shot like this.

Also, not to steal your thread away, but my family is planning a med trip that includes trying to get to the Egypt and the Pyramids for next year, so I'd be interested in any details you might want to add regarding the trip in general and about taking this kind of photo gear in particular.

Thanks for sharing,

ML

Very strong portrait, I like it. What a face.

That is a man that has seen lots with his eyes...

thank you very much :)

i am soory i poster this one here as i was using a 5D long time ago so i forgot that this one taken before that era :)
i used a tamron 70-300 to capture this one ..

about the trip it was just a one hour trip to shoot the sunset from the boat but anyways you won't regret visiting my country , i think you will find it very interesting and memorable , i recommend that you come on the winter to be able to enjoy your time ..

A very nice photo, although the background to the left seems very distracting. A more blurred background would make the portrait stand out more. Cropping and blurring the background might work very well.

Stunning portrait. I like this a lot.
Congratulations.

'Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-

preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out,
and loudly exclaiming, 'Wow, What a ride!'

I disagree, then you would just have a face without the strong composition and a nice sense of place. The guy is a sailor after all, why not convey that?
