Hello there,

I wonder why the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III remains so expensive. Now we have the 1D Mark iV, but the 1DS III keeps the same price.
Why !?

Probably because the 1D IV is not the replacement for the 1Ds III. The 1Ds III is still the top of it's product line and a current model, so retains it's current price.

Because some need/want a sealed full frame body with a decent AF system, great finder and a thousand other things the 1Ds has to offer? Its easy, isn't it? ;)

If you shoot at a level that requires the 1 Ds MkIII, you are more than likely being compensated properly to justify the camera. At any rate, the images from this camera are at least as good as from a Hasselblad film camera of 10 years ago, and that system was more money, especially the lenses, so overall, the value is still good as a professional imaging system.

For my A3-size 3D-pictures I need next :
  • more than 20 mp
  • minimum 6 frames/sec speed
  • big sensor (full frame)
  • exact 50 mm lens
So the 1DsIII could be a nice choise, isn't it ?
Sometimes I think on the 5D II.

I think canon will claim that there is lack of competition in that segment.

I see that the largest retailer in Norway have the D3x available, but you have to wait 30 days.

The 1Ds3 is on a three day wait. Which means that most of those who want one and can afford it, already have one.
