Hi,

Today I purchased a refurbished Kodak M1033 digital camera at a garage sale. The owner stated that he was totally frustrated with the fact that it kept turning off seconds after turning on, and the LCD seemed defective. He wanted no part of it and just purchased a new Nikon.

He also said that it may be still under warranty, he wasn't sure because he had lost the receipts.

I purchased it from him basically just for parts, but found out from the serial number that indeed it is still under warranty.

Kodak states that warranty work must be accompanied by proof of purchase, a receipt. Since I do not have one and cannot get one, is there any recourse? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Thank you for any suggestions, Regards, Ken.

I bought 2 M1033 HD´s for my sons in March this year. They realy take very nice photos and I like the quality.

The one also suddenly had the same problem of switching off seconds after swithing on again. Would bevery interested on how to solve it

A discharged, defective or incorrect battery is a good reason for the camera shutting down. Also a defective charger can lead to using batteries that are not fully charged.

It sure would be nice if the battery or charger was the problem.

Kodak's M1033 warranty specifically states proof of purchase is required. Based upon prior postings, it is not clear to me if the "original dated sales receipt" requirement excludes E-bay type sales or other type of "non-bonafide retailer" sales.

"Limited warranty

Kodak warrants Kodak consumer electronic products and accessories (“Products”), excluding batteries, to be free from malfunctions and defects in both materials and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. Retain the original dated sales receipt. Proof of the date of purchase will be required with any request for warranty repair. Limited warranty coverage

Warranty service is only available from within the country where the Products were originally purchased. You may be required to ship Products, at your expense, to the authorized service facility for the country where the Products were purchased. Kodak will repair or replace Products if they fail to function properly during the warranty period, subject to any conditions and/or limitations stated herein. Warranty service will include all labor as well as any necessary adjustments and/or replacement parts. If Kodak is unable to repair or replace a Product, Kodak will, at its option, refund the purchase price paid for the Product provided the Product has been returned to Kodak along with proof of the purchase price paid. Repair, replacement, or refund of the purchase price are the sole remedies under the warranty."

Thank you for the comment.

I have now done the following:

1. Charged both cameras with the same charger. Both had blinking blue lights.
2. I switched on both. The one still switced of seconds after it was switched on

3. I removed the battery from the faulty camera and put it in the working one. The working one was fine with the battery from the faulty camera.

So my conclusion is that the problem then has to be with the camera and not the charger or the battery. Is there not a place where one can "reset" the camera?

I´m open for any other suggestions.

It is still within the warranty period but I will not be able to get to the store before the end of the warranty.

Do yourself a favor and forget it. Kodak won't honor any warranty. They will require you to send it to a third party. Then they will find some reason to deny warranty and charge you to fix the camera. If you send them the money they will repair it. Your other option is to pay them a smaller amount to get the camera back.

I've been through this twice with them. The second time, I filed a complaint with the BBB. After the complaint, they repaired it under warranty.
I've written Kodak about what happened and they basically don't care.

You can see similar complaints at http://www.consumeraffairs.com/cameras/kodak.html .

Thank you to all who have posted responses here, sorry that I did not see them until now.

Let me update my situation with Kodak, this will serve to answer some of your questions and to respond to the others;

Kodak was difficult to deal with at first because of the lack of receipts or proof of purchase. After several calls, I finally asked for and spoke with a senior manager, who helped me waive this requirement. The camera was sent back for free repairs, under warranty, and was 'fixed'. When I received it, it was not working at all. I contacted the same person, and she said they would look at it again. Back it went. This time, it was working, but not correctly, the focus was not right, and it was just thrown it the box with the charger and no protection. It was terribly scratched and basically ruined. Back it went a third time. This time I requested a new camera which is allowed if the original is not fixed on the third try. After several weeks of haggling, they not only sent me a brand new camera in a sealed box, not refurbished, but since the exact model was not available, they sent me an upgraded model!

Several weeks later, I received the old, original camera back, totally repaired! I gave this camera back to the original owner, who was, of course, very happy.

I guess retrospectively, I am very happy with Kodak and the way it all was handled.

I hope this helps all of you, Regards, Ken.
