Hello,

Can you tell me if Nikon Capture NX2 and Nikon View are compatible on a Vista 64 bit OS. I am not sure if I will get Home Premium 64 or Ultimate 64. I just want to make sure my Nikon software will work before I buy a 64 bit OS. If they don't then I will get the 32 bit version.

Thanks for your help,
Dan

Yes, all of the Nikon apps will work very well on Vista 64 (and Windows7 64). I use them all the time on both OS'es.

View and Transfer work fine.

The NEF plugin for Windows Explorer (NEFs show as thumbnails) doesn't though. Does in the 32 bit version.

all nikon software works fine on my installation of vista ultimate 64 bit.
capture NX2.2
nikon transfer
viewNX

forget 32 bit... unless you run 16 bit apps no reason for it at all.
vista 64 is so far removed from xp 64 as far as drivers support etc.

as a matter of fact nvidia video driver for 64 bit now say both vista and windows 7 for the 64 bit flavor.

D-Seven Double 0's paired with 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200vr f2.8 an excellent combination for me.

Excellent, I am buying a new PC soon and wasn't sure about Vista 64. I was only going to get 4G or ram but I want the ability to get more if needed.

Thanks to all,
Dan

if your buying a new box why not go with the new i7 line? you would need triple channel so it would be 3gbs/6gbs/12gbs, etc. why start off with old technology?

The cost of the i7 line is expensive plus I have read that there are heat issues with the i7. If I am wrong can you recommend a system that is will not break the bank and not heat up the house?

Thanks,
Dan

I am by no means a computer genius and I had to spend many hours of research to find out where the technology was when I bought my new box. I ended up going to Dell Outlet and getting a nice XPS with a 17 920, 6 gigs of Ram, Vista 64, and I have never been happier. All my editing programs run in real time. What more can you ask. The 17 920 is actually reasonably priced compared to the other processors out there. Faster than most anything else. Excellent at multi tasking. Runs hot? I have not had any problems and I think the fan kicked in once when I batch processed 3 different lightroom libraries at the same time along with having a video playing in the background along and other various programs open.

This is my second Dell Outlet purchase. my last computer was out of date and I gave it to my Father because it still worked like the 1st day I bought it.

BTW, the i7 920 chip is going the way of the dodo and is being replaced with a light version. Will it be faster. It is a fantastic over clocking chip with a little extra cooling added in.
