I need your vote: Which forum for E-P1

3) New Forum, Olympus M4/3 Forum

My vote is 2). E-P1 certainly is not a SLR.

But the best would be the new forum. That's the way Olympus classes the camera as well. It's not a compact nor a DSLR, it's a new system.

The Oly Digicam forum is hardly overburdoned with posts so no harm there and the PEN can use normal 4/3 lenses so OK here --------- it's not as if there were 10 new PEN bodies and 50 lenses being launched overnight and most of this forum's traffic is Brian and Raist Arguing ;-)

I like your idea. People who are interested in E-P1, undoubtedly would be interested in G1 and GH1 as well. They are really the same system.

Does it really matter? It's going to get talked about in both places whether any one person wants it that way or not.

While it's no DSLR, neither would I lower this model to the standards of the digicam talk forum of a brand (note this isn't about the people in that forum, but the cameras!) that has, other than possibly Nikon, the worst collection of point & shoot digicams in the market place. Everyone might as well deal with it....there is not going to be any new forum.

There's plenty of DSLR talk over in the Olympus talk forum in addition to all the digicam discussion. The EP-1 will get talked about in both places, in addition to the Panasonic forum. Just do like I eventually will and avoid the posts that list it in the subject line, which are going to probably going to be the majority for a little while.

Wow, this is a tough one. Difficult times and serious choices to be made. We could add a few more options, couldn't we? Is three really enough choices? Well, some have already added a fourth choice, but is that really enough? That new Samsung mirrorless crowd may feel left out. And maybe a new small camera from Nikon or Canon might need a new forum or not feel at home in the P&S Canon forum.

How in the world are we ever going to figure out where to discuss all of these new cameras? Maybe we should engage a professional consultant? I don't think the DPReview editors can figure out how to decide this. They just don't have the right tools at their disposal.

1. Panasonic has basically almost given up on "regular FT".
So regular FT forum is equal to Olympus SLR Talk Forum.
This can discuss also the PanaLeica lenses, Sigma lenses and some other stuff.
Owners of the L1 and other Pany SLRS are welcome.
They are already here anyway...

(What could be done, is make a separate FT lenses forum (like for Canikon))
(Keep the talk about bodies in one forum and all FT lenses in another.)

2. Panasonic needs its own forum for compacts (not MicroFT) :
the Lumix offerings deserve that certainly.

3. Olympus also needs its non-SLR Talk :
it may not be all and exclusively about Olympus compacts,
but it is the friendliest forum of the whole bunch and needs to stay.

4. MicroFT is an exciting new system : it needs its own forum.
Right now, I feel Olympus and Panasonic are equally engaged, so make it mutual.
