Make D90 OFF completely automatically when Power Switch is left to ON

I have read the manual, but could not find the answer. I am forgetful and often forget to set the Power Switch to OFF.

Is it possible to set D90 to turn off COMPLETELY automatically (in order to save battery and to reduce wear & tear) after certain amount of time of inactivity (3 minutes, for example) if the Power Switch is left in the ON position?

Note: I realize that I can set Auto Meter-off Delay and Monitor-off Delay (Custom Setting c2 & c4, Manual pp. 179-180). But I am not sure if everything else is OFF and stop consuming battery (i.e., the sensor). For example, I notice that the LCD Control Panel remains on for a long time after other screens are off. May be some parts of the camera is still "live".

Thanks,

Namtarn- no, there is no Auto-Off on the 90. But the Standby Mode is relatively safe for the camera to be in indefinitely(months) with little power consumption, except that in a bag a button might inadvertently get pushed, running battery down completely.

I purposely leave my 90 on for days in Standby, effectively making it an 'instant-on' camera, with no concern.

. . . shoot like there's no film in the thing!

What you want is not possible afaik.

But no worries: I forget to turn it off many times and I can't see any battery drain at all.

According to some sources, the camera does shut down everything after a while. The only thing left is the top display, but that is also on when the camera is off, albeit with less icons.

The only "worry" is, if it's sitting in your bag or elsewhere and the release button is pressed now and then.

In short: the camera goes to sleep anyway, so nothing works until you hit the release button again.

Yup, unless I am putting mine in a bag I do not turn it off either. It sits on my tripod all week and if I will take it off for pics and put it back without ever turning the switch to off.

Got it. Thanks, guys.
