I'm in need of a new website - possibly with a blog involved. I'm not thrilled with Bluedomain even though the price is right and lots of photographers use them. They have no phone number to call and get help and - don't seem to worried about getting back to people as quick as they should fromwhat I've heard. PLus, if you are not going to even gett back to me when I e-mail with questions about your service when I am willing to spend money with you...

Can anyone please recommend a webiste service for photogrpahers? Something that I can update easily myself - possibly that also offers an online sale option for wedding/portrait orders as well? I know there are several out there, I was hoping for feedback and advice from those that use them

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me out!

Cheers!

Bruce,

Take a look at PhotoIdentities. I just moved to them from Marathon Press. I think it is very easy to update text and photos. They have good customer service but be prepared to get better service through e-mail rather than the phone. They will call you back but prefer e-mail and you will get a faster response via e-mail.

Take a look at my site, http://www.ricklewisphotography.com . Then go to http://www.photoidentities.com/ for more info.

You may also wish to look at http://www.marathonpress.com and at http://www.livebooks.com . I can tell you Livebooks is rather expensive but has many features.

I'm very pleased with everything and it's now been 1 year that I've been with them.
Here is the link to my website
http://www.ronphoto.com
the template I'm using is called CherryLane

the people at Bigfolio have been wonderful to me

I just checked out some sites including yours and they are all horribly slow and not very user-friendly. Also, the design is not really that good.

As I SAID I am looking at redesigning my site. "Horribly slow" is a problem on your end, not my current site - that I can say for sure. Maybe it's not user friendly for you because you because English is not you first langauge.

Again... I said I was wanting to change from what I have now.. but seeing what you have for a site I don't know you can say my current design is not good.

Basically your post had nothing to do with my question all you did was ramble.

If you cant handle an honest opinion, then dont advertise your site here ;P

I was not actually commenting specifically on your site but more on the templates in general, but I guess you took it personally.

Regarding my own site, wich you made the effort to locate, I never claimed here or anywhere else that it good, so your efforts are wasted :)

Also, since you oppened the door... You should really consider replacing that horrible b/w shot with the red roses on your front page. That effect is so yesterday that it is not even funny...

BlueHost.com. I'm only just setting up a website with them, but they were highly recommended--on the basis of many clients' long experience--by the developers of the template I'll be using, as giving extraordinary customer service, and so far that has been my experience. I've used Live Chat for my many questions, and typically I've had a response within seconds. $250 bought me a domain name, email address, with email forwardable to another address if I wish, FTP address (or do all hosts offer these?), and anyway unlimited capacity for website contents for three years.

Confusing and too much flash....completely frustrating.

And get that scanned film off the site.....

Your are also over-sharpened, or your service provider is over-compressing
to save drive space ($).

Ummm, who's site are you talking about? I dodn't have any images like that.

As well, what I said about yoru posts is that it did't have anything to do with my question. I SAID I'm redesigning my site, I was not looking for comments on my current site.

Maybe you didn't read my ORIGIONAL pots. I am going to redesign my site completely, I was looking for suggestions on providers of flash sites.

sorry, im afraid i cant help you there, but had you considered not using a flash site, a flash site is almost bound to be slow by definition.

Thanks to all that gave me advice and suggestions. In the end I selected photobiz.com

http://www.photobiz.com/home.cfm
  • No contracts to sign
  • the ability to switch templates (a redesign of you website) at anytime and as many timesas you wish and it only take one mouse click
  • very cutsomizable templates with little resrictions
  • change pricing options at anytime - up or down (the costs tied in with their online gallery for clients is an great idea)
  • very good support and easy to get ahold of by phone
  • and (like other companies as well) they are a member of PPA. I like supporting companies that support me (I'm also a member).
I just really like the way they work. It's like they know they have designed something that photographers will like and priced it very fairly so they are not afraid to say no contracts, a 30 day money back offer if you are not happy.

Now all I have to do is select the photographs, pick a template, figure out my wording and set it all up...... :-(

Thanks again!

I am putting together a LiveBooks site right now. In a few days I will let you know what I think. Since I gave them my money I found another option I kinda wish I would have found first. http://getparade.com/

I'm in need of a new website - possibly with a blog involved. [snip]
If I were designing a new site, I would consider using a Blog as the front end with links to my work.

A Blog is a great CMS tool which is easy to update with any form of content. A big plus being that many themes are already designed for Blogs - and can be customized with a little effort.
