50D Error 01 Lost communication with lens

I have the same exact problem with my Canon 50D right now. It's only two months new, and I get err01. I got it a few times and now my camera is just not working at all - it's dead.

I'm calling Canon support tomorrow as soon as they open - I really hope this problem gets fixed!

I have a 50d bought on aug 29 09... didn't get a kit lens cause i have a 20d also - so using those two lens -- worked fine for nearly a 1000 shots (at least maybe more) during a trip to NC.... several dozen more home afterwards... today shooting outside w/ the canon 17-85 lens... after dozen shots it starts giving err01.... power off and back on it allows me to shoot a few more shots and again errors... then after a few times of that - power off and on allows ONE shot - then the shut seems to slow / lock -- err01 comes up and the shutter finishes ... (like shooting in a dark room)... tried inside w/ lens cap on -- same ... contacts look perfect -- wiped them off before the indoor test.
very frustrating...
will test w/ the 75-300 lens ...
