Hey all .. I've just ordered a new 5D (couldnt wait for a 5D 2.0) and was thinking I should get some accessories to go with it. Wondering what everyone would consider as their must-haves e.g. neck/wrist straps, tripods, grips, filters etc.

Thanks !

and I use the Hakuba wrist strap in conjunction with it, the one that looks like the Canon E1. If you get the grip, get the Canon one. If you need the power, get a 580EX flash; if not get the 430EX and a Better Bounce Card feather light is a nice diffuser for people shots indoors. The Sto-fen Omnibounce is smaller but not as good IMO.

Canon FiveDee, Canon 2oD, Canon Gee3, Canon S7o, Fuji Eff30, Sony Hnine.

You may want to consider the following:

24-70 L F/28 USM,...this goes extremely well with the 5D
BG-E4 Grip
Extra btry
A couple of Lexar 133x 4GB CF cards

...may as well get the 580EX II,...I did, but don't use it alot,...cause the 5D is the high ISO king!

...D2X x2 - ITP 2.0 Pro embedded
...5D x1
...Nikon and Canon forever~

If you need more power, and shoot vertically a lot then take the Grip : BG-E4 + extra batteries.

If your lens is f 2.8 or faster and like to manual focus, then add the Ee-S focusing screen.

some lens and memory card may help too :)

Regards,
ALX.

I say this allot on this forum, but Camdapter hand straps are the best!

http://www.camdapter.com

The products are top quality and their customer service is outstanding. I use them on every SLR I won. They offer adapter plates to fit virtually every camera, plus they sell adapters that double as QR plates for Arca Swiss or Manfrotto.

I am not affiliated with Camdapter, just a very satisfied customer!!

are the grid viewing screen and RRS L bracket. I just used my old Optech straps, E1 wrist strap, batteries, etc. for the 5D--nice that everything from past 1.6x bodies works. The viewing screen and L bracket are specific to the 5D.

If you have an arca swiss style ball head...heck yeah this L Bracket is above and beyond my most enjoyed "accessory" for the 5D.

I hope this isn't a stupid question (although I should be used to asking them by now), but how does the grid screen work? I've never seen one. Thanks in advance for your help.

I like the Ee-D Grid-type Focusing Screen. It makes it much easier for me to keep the shots level and is easy to install (just don't touch it). I like the RSS L bracket also, I just wish it were a little more svelte.

The angle finder has allowed me to get some shots that might be almost impossible otherwise. I like to shoot low, and I just got tired of crawling on the ground.
The grid screen is nice as well, but the lines are too faint in my opinion.

I had the Canon hand strap on my 10D, but removed it because it was causing me to miss shots. Often, if I wasn't holding the camera at the ready, and something happend that I wanted to capture, I'd quickly reach for the shutter button, but the damn strap would get in the way. After a few of these, I took it off, and I don't miss it at all.
