How many are sitting out this round?

I am just curious. Since the improvements on the D60 are limited, how many current D30 owners are sitting out this round of upgrading? I would have done so had Canon put the Elan 7E eye control focus into the D60. Nonetheless, I, for one, can not justify nor afford to pluck down $3000 evey couple years to buy a new DSLR body. Hopefully, the next DXX version will have a better AF system.

First I wanted the D-60.

Then the 1-D.

Now wondering about the rumored 1-Ds.

Might be sitting around 'til Christmas. Hmmm, bonus time!

...purely for financial reasons.

Were it not for wallet constraints, I'd get the D60 in a heartbeat. The lit-up focus points alone are almost enough to get me to switch. :)

That's, of course, if money were no concern and I didn't have to weigh whether the cost is justified by the improvements.

I am going to sit the D60 round out. I just don't see enough to make me want to buy one. That said I would like something with better AF, but I am not beating up on the D30 AF. It is fine for 80% of what I do, it just sucks at tracking anything. So maybe I will get a 1D, even if it seems like over kill sometimes.

Life is short so I've ordered one, but like most--I'm really looking forward to the successor to the 1D. Must admit that the lighter weight of the D-60 is attractive, though.

Good point, Tom. I had the battery grip with the D30 and sold the grip because it just made the camera too big. I remember for a while, this forum was rife with posts about finding a bag that would hold the D30 and the grip. The post would start with, "XXX bag is really great, but I need one that will fit the D30 with BG-ED.."

I was looking forward to getting a new camera this year, but now I am back in a wait and see mode. I might have gone for the D60 if they fixed the AI AF, but assuming that is not fixed (and there are no reports that the AI AF is fixed), it is a deal killer for me.

Like many of you, I would love to get an EOS 1D. I recently handled one at my local camera shop. Wow, its shape and overall feeling is intoxicaing. Furthermore, the AF is out of this world. However, if I pluck down over $5000 for this camera, then I must get into the federal witness protection/relocation program from my wife.

I have definitely decided against the D60 because there is little if any improvement in AF. I am still undecided about the 1D but leaning in that direction. SO no to D60-- 1D maybe. mark

LOL, I really feel for you guys, I really do. If I had a wife I am sure she would have killed me long ago ^ ^

I think the 1D is coated with whatever they put on L lenses, then painted black.

I honestly don't see the need for 6mp unless you
print large format... it's overkill for the web.

I won't upgrade this time. I am more interested in experimenting with new lenses than with a new body. I may upgrade all my equipment ( printer and computer too ) for a full-frame 6mp+ camera next year, if one is available.

I expected to be more excited by the D60 than I am.

I just bought a 1NRS (long story, a complicated deal involving a film job...) and now I know what I am missing... (10 FPM, REAL AUTOFOCUS (!), no blackout between shots, rock solid beautiful body etc.) I guess a 1D with no banding and a pellicle mirror would have me rushing out to buy one. ;)

Just yesterday, I started getting a silly notion of selling my D30, making due with the 1NRS (for a year!) and eventually buying either an improved 1D or a "1Ds".

I’m more confused than frantic… But if someone showed up on my doorstep with cash I might be into serious trouble!

I have decided to sit this round out. The D30 is a great camera that does most of what I want. The only problem with it is you can’t manually focus it and the auto focus sucks. :

Greg

Not Me! I am MORE than happy with my D30. The Resolution is adequate for anything I do. I just love the focus enhancements of the .2.2 Firmware. Fixed a lot of things for me at least.
