10mm lens on 5D is it worth having.

Have the Sigma 10-20. Found it surprisingly sharp. Last week I borrowed the sigma 8mm fisheye, not sharp at all, didn't like much.

Here are a couple pictures taken with the 10-20:

My Sigma 12-24 arrived yesterday. Took a couple of shots inside the house. Wow! 12mm on the 5D is spectacular! The image looks pretty good. I've got to try out Adam-T's suggestion but looks like this one is a winner. :D

be sure and post some images as they are sort of lacking here at dpreview. I found several older reviews with images--mostly at Pbase--and they were mostly on 1.6x bodies, so when others search here, there will be some input--Adam's was very helpful.

Mine is due Monday--shipped yesterday (B&H got right to it and got it out yesterday afternoon). I'm anxious to try it--hope I have good success too. I know what to look for--and was unhappy that there were none in stock in mid and western NC so I could choose a good one. I haven't heard too much grumbling lately though about this lens. I guess most places are now keeping the most asked for lenses and figuring they will order 'niche' lens. This is def. a niche lens LOL.

This will really complete my lens lineup--in fact I really need to divest myself of a few lenses.

the amazing sigma 12-24mm on a 5D is crazy-wide. Makes you dizzy. These are interior shots of my company's ceilings, walls, and column covers:

about 3 years ago I found a bad one too. Blurry left wide on the 10D! The one I got is great. Not perfect corners at 12mm, but stopped down, they look very good. Vignetting is not a problem. And there is virtually no barrel distortion at all focal lengths.

I have not heard of anybody getting a bad copy in the last couple of years or so (at least on this forum). Everyone that got bad copies seemed to be from several years ago. It makes sense that they corrected the quality issues since the original complaints. It is a really nice, well-builit, lens and it can do something on a 5D that no other lens can do - a rectilliar 12mm field of view.

Thanks Todd. Now I remember seeing the first and liking it. Hadn't seen the second group. I think it takes some time to get used to using a WA--the widest I've done is 15mm and it was almost always for interiors--a few landscapes, but I haven't used it much on the 5D--mostly 24-70 range. This will be fun but a challenge too.

Very cooll. I liked the one of the auditorium very much but also thought the one of the corridor was quite nice. I know you were highlighting your company's products, but still very nicely done.

I checked your gallery--found the 12-24 test. Are you finding the 24 end not so good? I'd love to be able to use the lens up through 20, a FL I llike. It would keep me from hauling the Sigma 20 f/1.8 along (altho' at times I need a fast wide lens)--or even the 15-30 which is very good around 18-20. I suspect, like Adam and others, I'll be using this at the wide end mostly.

Looking forward to mine--I know it is in the state LOL--but won't be delivered until Monday. If it looks without problems, I'll take a morning and get out and shoot--good excuse to wander LOL.

Diane
