Looking through the closet and came across my daughter's first digital camera, purchased in 2000 for $550 (+\-) as I recall. I took it, along with my P850, to shoot a few pics at a local race. I used it for wide angle shots, and my P850 for zoom and other effects. The DC4800 has a very quick click-to-capture, a nice flash. And great color. But what a noisy autofocus! (Sounds like a truck roaring by.) The it certainly WON'T fit in your pocket. What a great camera.

It's a good thing we don't all wear our AGE on our backsides! But for this race you do. That way if you're gaining on someone, you can see if they're in your age bracket and decide it you need to try to pass them.

I too have had this camera for about seven years. It is a back up to my back ups. It has been used for some of my favorite shots. Mine was in 100% shape until about three weeks ago when my ex-wife borrowed it from my son and (a few drinks later) it was smashed into four medium sized parts with one of the neck strap eyes totally missing. I got the parts and put it together with gaffer tape ... big pieces of tape covering 90% of the old silver/grey plastic and the holes she left. It looks really ugly. It works as good as new. :) BTW, they were made by the Chinon Camera Company for Kodak. I seem to remember Chinon from the early 1970's.

Yes Carter, a great little camera, felt great in the hand and picture quality was very good, one of Kodaks better models.

I totally agree with you. Back in 2001, I purchased the DC4800 ($500) and later decided to upgrade to the Nikon 995 thinking it was a better camera. What a mistake. I missed the Kodak's 28mm lens, color, white balance.

I recently bought a used Kodak DC4800 on eBay along with the Kodak 43mm wide angle lens for a total of $30. I've been using the DC4800 for the past 3 weeks. For a camera that is 6-7 years old, it takes very nice pictures. The wide angle lens brings is to around 16-17mm lens and it is very fun.

Yes, I totally agree with you, the lens motor sounds like it is going to fall out any minute.

I'll post some photos later when I get a chance. Thank you for sharing yours.
