Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but I could not find anything on 8GB SHDC cards in the forum. Nikon only guarantees up to 4gb in the manual. I purchased a Kingston 8GB SDHC Class 6 card and it works great.

I can get 1622 shots at 10M Fine. One thing that seems odd to me is that with my SanDisk 2GB card the camera showed I could shoot 29min 57sec of video. With the 8GB card it shows 30min 00sec available for video. If I shoot a few minutes worth of video, then it says I can still only shoot 30 minues. I guess this is a file size limitation.

But bottom line is that the 8GB SDHC works and works well and for less than $100 for a class 6 card (from newegg) I couldn't be happier

Cards do sometimes fail, and you lose all your files. It may be uncommon, but I wonldn't want to put so many of my eggs in one basket.

I couldn't see the point of such a large card except for a camera that makes RAW files that are over 10mb each.

The manual says "If more than 2GB of memory are available, camera shows recording time available for 2GB file."

I am not sure if this means you have a 2GB file size limit or the Camera can only calculate a time for a 2GB file size. Maybe you can experiment and tell us.

No, not a file size limitation. The timer can only show the size availble on a 2G card, it's in the manual. It should record for 2 hours. I think someone else commented on this in another post earlier, they tested it and it recorded the whole card.

--I was just kidding. A few hundred shots is plenty for me.
