I´ve just noticed that Pirinchov, who posted w/o any explanation, a very negative assesment of the Nikon D40x, did the same earlier in the D80 thread. Why people like this one can be allowed to post a negative opinion about a product he or she simply have not tested (in all likelyhood---that is, w/o a simple comment, whether positive or negative!!!) ??? This is a Serious and Honest Place and only serious opinions should be entered!!!! Why did he so, giving these products the lowest possible marks....... For the sake of WHAT!!!???----lams

But I've always taken those user reviews with a grain of salt; and the ones which rate any given camera very poorly without any comment as worthless. They may bring down the overall rating but other than, something to ignore. As to pirichov's motives, I just don't care; his opinion (in this case) doesn't count for anything, so his motive is irrelevant.
Cheers, Peter.

Hi.

I'm a Pentaxian lead to this forum by a search result on "all forums".

I found "pirinchov" as a reference in alatest(dot)com for the Pentax k20d. He has given the camera a score of 20 out of 100, which leads to think of trolling. Of course, the Pentax may not be to everyones liking or standard, compared to anyones intended use, but 20 out of 100 is not credible.

Furthermore, I searched for "pirinchov" in the Pentax forum whithout finding any. Searching "all forums" gave me this thread.

My point is that some forums on the internet, like "alatest" collects information from other sites to create a mean score or opinion. Trolling corrupts these opinions making them useless.

Did "pirinchov"'s trolling affect any Nikon model score on the alatest? Then please write alatest and tell them about it. I'll do that for the K20D.

Try googling" pirinchov " he has commented on quite a few cameras!!

Interesting-must be bored. At least he is an equal opportunity hater* and not a Canon troll. I never put stock in "star" ratings anyway as it is so subjective.

"Camera wars" make me laugh when people count camera hits or brag about one camera having more "stars" (even by serious reviewers) than another, therefore making it "better".

EDIT: oops - just noticed he is a Sony troll...

That doesn't seem to be unusual here - a few posters think it's acceptable to bash a camera, even other posters, instead of just providing personal experience and positive comments on a particular model.

The very negative ratings happen not only with the D40X but in fact the same poster you mentioned did the same thing to the D60 which has not yet been removed. I haven't checked other Nikon models - does it occur with them as well or just the entry level iterations?

As far as bashing on forum posts is concerned there are rules that are being ignored and one of them relates specifically to that sort of behaviour.

to wit - "Bashing - Deliberately and repeatedly bashing the same brand, product or company will get you banned."

But - there are no forum moderators so things like this continue as well a harrassment and some personal attacks.

Until or unless someone at DPReview actually takes an interest in policing this behaviour it will just have to be ignored. That's unfortunate though since people who genuinly want to get reliable comments and some more accurate information are not able to get that. Harrassment and derision are also not uncommon and are obviously intended to silence positive comments on certain camera models. To that there is also a forum rule. The rules are listed each time a post is being made.

Pretty slow day when people have nothing better to do than badmouth someone in a thread that was started over a year ago.

lol

You do know this thread is about the "Owner's opinions" section, and not
the forums, don't you?
Like this:

As far as the forums go, I don't recall seeing any real bashing lately, not even
of the D60.

Thanks Patco, I was aware of the "User reviews" section in the Camera Database and that was the section I referred to when stating that the same individual noted in the original post made the same no comment bad rating for the D60 as was done for the D40X. There were several others who did the same thing as well as a few who made no comment but gave perfect ratings most likely to counter the others. You might note that there's also a poster named 'doesbud' who is requesting that the bogus ratings be cleaned up so a more accurate assessment can be made of the camera. Most of the user reviews with comments are obviously sincere subjective comments and realistic ratings though. I imagine it happens with other cameras as well. Bashing camera models in this manner and in forum comments is childish and non-productive. It's unfortunate that posting is so prolific at DPReview and that there's no moderators for the forums at least. Experienced users/readers can sort through the mess but new users/purchasers can have difficulty getting accurate information they need.

There has been bashing recently in the forums as well - perhaps you missed it - I won't glorify it by referring to it though. It's best ignored and forgotten.

Thanks patco for the list. If we go into each he gives all EXCEPT the Sony A100 a 1 rating, including the D300. The Sony A100 he give a 5.
Some "young" fan of Sony propping up his own camera choice is all this is.
