Hello~
I want a little more feedback...
AS some may know I'm trying to buy the E20 online...First time buyer.

I've searched through a lot of the online stores and I found some of the prices to be "suspect"(to good to be true)...

I've went to the ebay auctions and I bid on some but I haven't won any as of yet...

My questions would be...

Has anyone felt that some of the prices of Cams are too good to be true i.e. BWAY.com has some really great prices but do they deliver? Are they legitimate? What about the rest of em' has anyone bought from them and actually recieved their cameras?

And about auctions:
I can tell the "stores" from personal sellers...

Is there a secret out there to winning those bids? Each time I bid, I have to bid at least four times and it goes higher and higher before it claims me as the highest bidder...Do the stores or do the personal sellers have someone working for them to get the highest prices?

I'm hesitant to buy online for these reasons?

I've looked at eBay many times, but always shyed (sp) away. For an E20 I think it's just too much money to gamble on everything going right. I've read at least one posting here where someone got taken in an auction.

I always do the same thing. Research for best price on the web, and then get my local camera store (Henry's - in Toronto) to match it, or come close. I also try to be reasonable with Henry's.

I also don't think I'd have any hesitation dealing with the 2 or 3 well known and reputable on-line stores that many people in this forum deal with. Just my 2 cents.

Loxxo I think if you go back to your last thread there was good advice given there including the American Express price match. Check 17thst photo for their price and ask for Sam and tell him I sent you. If you use your american express then you can price match and get at least $250 back.

Loxxo,

The secret to successful bidding on online auctions is to make your first bid be your highest bid, i.e., the highest amount you are willing to pay for the item. I know that's easier said than done, but try to figure what the top dollar is for the item you are bidding on and bid that amount. If you find yourself re-bidding just to stay in the chase, then you were not honest with yourself as to the top amount you were willing to pay. If you lose, then someone else wanted it more than you did ;-)

Having said that, there are "snipe" programs (that I and some others use) that automatically put your bid in just before the auction closes. That way, others don't know what you are willing to bid until the auction ends. In fact, they don't even know you are bidding at all until the auction closes. Many times, this results in winning the bid, but at a lower amount than otherwise.

Hope this helps. BTW, I bought my E-10 on eBay...

Loxxo,

It seems that Cameta camera is one of the best dealers currently selling Olympus stuff on Ebay. They are selling stuff with official usa warranties. You can also order directly from them and get a good price, without having to do the whole auction thing. I personally went to my local Alkitt Camera store. I paid a little more, but I had peace of mind after talking with a salesperson about returns and such, and I also had the chance to inspect the goods before paying.

Hey Jim,

Is this 'snipe' program available? Hmmm, bid the higest amount huh? See I never did that I always did just like you would do at a "normal" auction and just out bid em' by the amount up from them i.e. 10 20 25.....

I'll try that...I'm quite sure even if I don't get the E20 from ebay, I will still bid on EBAY for other things...thanks for your input!!!

I just got off the phone with 17st and the price is $1699+shipping, now they do have a money back type thing but that price, even with the AMEX...It only matches to $250...No way I can do it I have to keep it under 1700+shipping...

I'm confused. Do you want good service at a safe place to buy or do you want cheap from a questionable dealer? You can't get it both ways, and if you find a cheap dealer, they may sour your online purchasing experience (something 17photo will not do). Why don't you just save for another week to cover shipping costs?

I got my E20 thru eBay last month. I put in my final bid during the last minute of the auction and won. I paid $1575 plus shipping from Choice One Digital. It has a USA warrantee and is new of course. A co-worker won a similar auction from Camedia, also in NY, but paid a little more in his auction. You need to just watch the auction closely and jump in with a reasonable bid. Good luck. BTW the E20 is great!

After going to this site: http://www.resellerratings.com/html

And reading through reviews of the stores ....I'm starting to understand,
this is what I needed...That's what I want "a safe place to buy."

A lot of these Online stores are offering "good" prices but those are the same ones with poor ratings...I'm going to wait...
Thank you for posting..

17th street is a reputable dealer. What you do is pay the $1699 and shipping and pay for it with American express. Then you go on the net, look in magaizines, the newspaper or anywhere else and find a better price. You pick up the phone and call American express that you want to price match. American experss will pay you back the difference in what you paid versus what you could have paid up to $250 and they automatically double the manufacturers warranty. That would put your end cost at $1699-$250=$1449 and shipping costs. So I do not understand the problem either.

Good luck!

Ditto to what Jim said. Bid a few bucks over the reserve in the last couple of minutes. Here's one from Cameta that ends in a little under 4 hrs from now. The reserve has not been met on this one, but I'd venture to guess it's around $1575. Someone else here may know the exact reserve amount.

Go to this website. Look for the 1-800 number.

Call these people and buy the camera. You will save MAYBE $50 if you are trying to win an online auction. Cameta sells the camera for $1669 plus s/h NO TAX. These people are awesome to deal with. Keep in mind that security should play a part in your purchase. If it is too good to be true than it is.

GOOD LUCK
NICK
