Hi there,
I have bought the K100D with the kit lens recently.

The other day I went to a friends house for dinner, and it turned out that he had a box of old lenses he had no use for anymore.

He wanted me to have them for free, and I have brought them home, and they all work fine and are in a good condition.

I do however feel bad about it, if some of the lenses are actually "rare" or expensive. In that case I want to pay him or give him the chance to sell it.

So my question is if anyone has experience with any of them, or knows what they would usually go for on ebay f.ex.

The box includes:
Pentax Flash AF240Z
Unknown brand Macro Teleplus MC 7 (Not a lens but a converter?)
SMC Pentax-A 1:2 50 mm (non zoom 50mm)
Sigma Zoom 70-210mm f5.6
Pentax-F Zoom 28-80mm 3.5-4.5
Sigma TELEPHOTO 1:5.6 400mm Multi-Coated Ø72mm

Any comments welcome, thanks in advance

Jesper

You have called him "friend". Your friend has given you a gift. Now, if you are his true friend, accept that gift graciously and don't ruin the friendship by carrying this any further.

That is my opinion.

Well youre right, good point.

Actually he is a good colleague who now and then invites me for dinner at his house when I visit our affiliate where he works.

Of course I'm very thankfull and have expressed that to him.

Assuming that these are all in good working order, no fungus, etc., I would say that their greatest value is likely to be for you to use them as practice tools to get used to the K100D. The lack of speed (f5.6 etc.) drops them to the bottom value scale on ebay. The Pentax flash is likely to be the only item worth selling, and that to fund a newer more powerful flash. The MC7 is likely a 2X teleconverter of moderate quality. The 50mm might do you for a starter portrait lens (think 75mm) and low light without flash. A 50mm f1.4 is more ideal for that use, but few are free.....

Thanks for the info Thomas!

About the whoops it's too late, I tried them out without thinking about that, but they seem to be very clean and were all "closed" with a hood, so I hope nothing was dropped in there :)

You might arrange to take photos of his family and give him a great Christmas gift. Her will love it and you will feel better. Great friend.

Instead of determining if you have a small gold mine here (and you don't...they are all consumer lens), you might want to ask if any of our new members would like to use some of these old lens for purposes of experimentation and familiarity with their new digitals. I'm sure several of the Newbies would be more than willing to pay for the shipping costs. Whatever you decide, best of luck, and he is indeed a friend.

The A 50 should be fine and very useful; some get hung up on whether to use a 50/1.4 or 50/anything else. f2 is the fastest in this little box of yours - so rejoice!

The Teleplus should be fine - especially if it's a macro converter and not just a teleconverter. Actually the brand IS Teleplus. If you hook it up with the A50, you should have something that's give good macro entertainment....

Thanks everyone for giving me information on the goods.

Being very new to all this I think I can get to learn and get some experience with the different lenses.

And I will give my colleague and his family something nice they can enjoy for the christmas holidays!

Just for the record, I was not hoping for MYSELF to have "struck gold", but wanted to make sure that he didn't give me something that was of much greater value without him knowing it.

Just think, how many lenses must be lying around in cardboard boxes in Garages, attics, basements or even in the woodshed.

Although the OP is only making sure that one of these lenses is not worth a ton of cash, they are worth something. I think even a poorly run eBay auction would bring $100 for this lot. That's an auction with one dark 300x200 jpg of all the stuff sort of arranged on an orange/red carpet. I agree that they have an even greater value as learning tools, but I wouldn't underestimate their resale value.

Hi

,i have the A-50mmf/2 and it's a very sharp lens when stopped down a little(f/5.6 to f/16).

I had own the Sigma 400mm5.6(the APO version) if it is the APO it's not a bad lens,if not i know that it is not that great...but hey for free you can use it when needed!

Yes, tons!
And just think of how many that get's thrown out when cleaning the
garage and so on.. I could cry :)
Well, in all fairness they probably have fungus if they have been kept in those conditions. It is a shame though. I went looking for some used primes when I first bought my camera. I thought for sure I could find a 50mm Pentax. Closest I came was a 50mm Vivitar stuck on an old K1000. I thought about it, but the whole pawn shop smelled like a smokers house and the prices were silly. I bought an FA 50mm f/1.4 new. Still haven't gotten a confirmation on the rebate though (2 months ago).

Verbage is not a word, but a mangling of verbiage - differing in both print and meaning. It replaces more cumbersome words such as copy and text.

Just noticed this thread 2 months later but for the record, I belirve the most valuable lens in your gift is actually 28 80mm. Take some photos and you'll see. And I believe it'll fetch the most $$ as well. It's comparable to much desired FA 28 70/F4 which often runs about $100 on ebay.

I have the SMC Pentax-A 1:2 50 mm, which I picked up real cheap in Paris: OK, but not that good at wide apertures, I have to say. I've been using it in conjunction with the AF 1.7x convertor, and extension tubes for macro work.
