Purchased a 2200 when they came out, and was not surprised when printing large images from Photoshop maxed out my old 1 gig Intel processor and printed very slowly.

My new 3.6 gig Zeon processor runs at about 50% when printing the same images, but printing is still very slow. The ink carriage parks and seems to wait for data between passes.

The printer has been connected using the parallel port on both computers.

I've tried tips from Epson and others to get better performance, but without much improvement.

Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Any luck with it?

Thanks

Mine moves as quickly as the 2200's print. The only time it parks is on a 13 x 19 print--maybe 3/4 way through and it may hesitate at one point--not always--and then resumes quickly. I am conneccted with USB 2.0 however. Something vaguely stirs in my memory about problems with parallel connections on the 2200, but I can't be sure. You might try a search on 2200 and parallel.

Here's one that I came up with using XP

I observed the same problem when trying to run my R2400 over a print server. When I returned to a direct USB 2.0 High-Speed connection to the computer, things got a LOT faster and the carriage never parked. Be sure that your connection is USB 2.0 HIGH-SPEED_ !!! USB 2.0 supports three different speeds - 1.5 Megabit/sec mode, which I don't remember the name of, 12.0 Megabit/sec mode called Full Speed, and 480 Megabits/sec mode called High-Speed. This is very confusing and leads to a lot of hanky-panky from manufacturers. You have to pin down your suppliers to learn just what modes they do support.

Agreed with Diane and Harvey. The pausing is delays in running the print spool (these are very big files) down the parallel port. I've no idea of the data rate on PP but it's now very old.

Switch it to USB and it will run continuously (my 2100 - the UK number for the 2200 - prints fast and continuously on a modest Sempron 2200/1.5Ghz box with 512Mb RAM) at all print sizes and numbers.

My old 890 used to "pause" chronically on PP. Changed it to USB when I first got a box with USB1 and the problem went away.
