I managed to get out and about with my G2 for the first time today. Some of the shots came off, but the remarkable thing was the number which were properly focused, and with correct exposure. Being new to the camera (a week tomorrow) I stuck mainly to automatic settings to see what the camera can do, and it certainly passed with flying colours.

I thought this was a tricky little test, the lack of flare seems to me a real credit to the lens.
the photo was taken on aperture priority, spot focus, f5 at 1/640th second

Keep up the good work (nice)

Great pic Jono! I'm still experimenting with my G2. I took it to Tennessee last weekend and have a few photos but none that I felt are worthy of displaying. It always seemed that the sun was in the wrong place for getting really fantastic fall foliage shots. Our personal shots were awesome though. Even though I don't respond, I am here lurking and trying to learn like everyone else. Keep asking questions, that's how I am learning.

HI Lisa
thank you!

I'm certainly experimenting with mine - truth be told, it's a 'compact' to go with my Oly E10, (which is away being fixed at present). But I'm really impressed with it - nice camera, easy to use, and very reliable - with pretty good image quality too.

I had a look at your shots.

I especially like this one - it's a pity it was so misty (but you might be able to do something with brightness and contrast settings in photoshop?

Whatever - great composition, lovely shot

Jono:

As my new husband found out for himself on this first visit to the Smoky Mountains, there is hardly ever a day that the mountains are clear. They are the true essence of "smoky." It makes good picture taking a task. I'm sure had I been using a UV filter, some of the glare would have been reduced.

Thanks, Jono!

Nothing wrong with the mist, I sorta like it.

Jono,

The title really caught my eye because I was really having flare problems with my new G2 just this afternoon.

I was out on my deck shooting directly into the afternoon sun and believe it or not, I was experiencing flare.

You would think that for 800 bucks you could do some awfully stupid things and still get perfect pictures... wouldn't you.... ?

I just got rid of a very nice Nikon N80 35mm SLR because it had the same poor performance..... flare when shooting directly into the sun, without lens hoods, uncoated filters....

In all seriousness, your picture is GREAT!

Hi Michael
just for one moment . . . . . .

It's a terrible thing that they still can't make a completely flare proof lens :-)

thanks for the kind words anyway

if you want to see flare on an E-10 I'm sure you can find some here:

Great picture!

I also enjoyed your pictures in your gallery. Can't wait to see more of your work with the G2.

Hi

My first thought when I saw the mess.. how can he possbile fail with the G2... ;-) and I agree with you, the are a bit slow to respond here. Yes, isn't it a pretty good cam? I definitely think so. I wanted to go out this weekend end and really test it out but I hurt my back so I am now laying in the bed with intense back pain.. not funny at all.
Best regards

Wicked message title, but nice shot Jono!

Hi Johan

sorry to hear about your back - I know all about it; I had bouts of it for 25 years, until I finally really did it badly falling off a mountain bike. I went to a sports physiotherapist, who made me do loads of excercises. It's been okay for almost 2 years now (touch wood!).

I like the G2 - I don't think that the colours are as good as they are with the E-10, and I must say, I don't feel as 'involved' when shooting. I really like the flip and twizzle lcd, and it seems produce in focus properly exposed shots with great reliability! My only real gripe is that I'd like to have the exposure information in the viewfinder (just shutter and aperture - surely that's not too much to ask!)

I'm afraid to tell you that I'm still really pleased with my decision NOT to get the D1X - I just feel that the OLYDAK is the way to go, and in the meantime the E10/20 is a fine compromise!

Hope your back's better soon.
