What's your 20D shutter count?

Don't know technically what it is, but the camera will very rarely lock up after a shot and display 'ERR 99', which I assume is analogous to a computer locking up.

When this happens with the 20D, I pull the battery, wait a few seconds, put it back in, and all is well again except the previous shot is gone.

Rather annoying behavior but I've yet to see a computer-based piece of electronics that didn't get confused now and then and need a reset.

At the risk of sounding antagonistic, is this a case of quantity over quality? 3000 over 2 x 8 hour days is approximately 187 frames an hour or just over 3 fames a minute, for every minute, over the two 8 hour days. I can only imagine that you are firing the camera randomly in a machine gun kind of fashion with out a thought of composition etc… It’s really bizarre how people brag about shutter count.

Thanks

Bought mine used last year in pristine condition with the box and accessories. Although I cannot say how many actuations before I bought it, I think I have shot about 15 to 20K this year. I will be thrilled to get 3 more years out of it. By then I hope to afford a 40 or 50D in good shape, and I will really need the nice LCD screen by then

The image number today is at 4712, got the camera in early May, 2005. I don't get out enough. I've never reset the counter nor have I had any serious errors, just a couple glitches I can't remember what, usually because I've forgotten to do something right.

The only thing unsettling is that, when the battery dies, there's no
indication as to why the camera stopped working. A blinking battery
light would be nice.
First shot May 20, 2005, brand new. That happened to me for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago, got an awful I mean sick feeling. Like you, I expected a blinking warning. I guessed the problem, charged it up, topped the other off, and all seems well again. One is a knockoff cheapie.

All the way home I was thinking I was going to have to send it in, and forgot I HAD stuck my spare in my pocket so could have fixed it right up, thought I'd left it at home in the bag.

Those batteries hold the charge so well, I have to remember to put them on the charger whether they seem to need it or not, maybe they are going bad.

Just checked my 20D, I have 77800 so far and no issues that were not operator issues except for the faulty battery grip.

I've been meaning to get a 50D. I guess the priority just went up.

just short of 5000 clicks. Have to replace the shutter assy which is more expensive than a secondhand one.

5,000 is that a typo and you meant 50,000.

I would be screaming down the phone at Canon if they wouldnt fix a dead shutter after only 5,000.

Nope... not a typo, less than five thousand clicks, (I think it was 4700 or 4800)... and out of warranty by a couple of years, and Canon Australia being Canon Australia, I didn't bother to as for an explanation.
