What's your 20D shutter count?

I know you don't know. But try to guess. I read somewhere where
the 350d is getting the "100,000-count shutter like the 20D"
instead of the 10,000 count shutter that the 300d got.

With that in mind, I want to try to gauge where everyone is. We do
this on one of my car forums. That way we can all say "yep at
XX,XXX I had this problem, or that problem." This way we can plan
on expected problems and take preventative measures. I'm terrified
'my precious' will die in the middle of a wedding on me. (yes I
have a back-up, but like all back-ups it's not as good as the
primary).

Here is my info:

Bought 20D: 10-10-04

Estimated shutter count: 25,000-30,000

Wedding photog.

Problems: few.
Scattered error 99's
Several with hitachi 2.2MD

Plan: Next January after the season and holidays are over, I plan
to ship it in to have the shutter assembly replaced. Estimated
count at the time: 80,000-100,000
since i swap cards with my rebel the count changes all the time. There is no count from canon on either the 300d or 20d shutter actuations, anything you heard is simply speculation from people that have no idea IMO.

My numbers have never gotten screwed up. I normally use the same 1 GB card in it and download it to a digital wallet when in the field.

Yesterday I shot #8797. I bought the camera on 9-17-04.

I only use a 17-40 and 70-200 on it. I've had no errors of any kind.

The only thing unsettling is that, when the battery dies, there's no indication as to why the camera stopped working. A blinking battery light would be nice.

We checked this quite thoroughly over at Rob Galbraith and it
worked (and was a lot easier than the german program you can get)

David
Now this may be due to the fact that I format my CF card every now
and then. Also the numbers do run sequentially on any one shoot but
vary between different shoots.

Do you just use the same CF card all the time and not format?
It is completely accurate on mine, even after some odd numbering
due to different CF cards being inserted, the number is the
furthest right hand one

David,

I tried this with my 20D and found numbers to be all over the place, even withing the same shooting session. For example, in one shoot the count went up sequentially like 277, 278, 279 and then the next one was 0 then 1, 2, 3 etc. None of the numbers were close to what I think the actual shutter count is on my camera. What is the name of the German software that gives you the count and where can we find it.

Thank you for your help.

I am not an expert and will happily admit that the way of counting shots in C1 was not my finding but info I picked up on Rob's site.

I think it may not record 'tethered' shots, but otherwise it works on both of mine. If it doesn't work on yours well, sorry.

The german program should be easy to find if you go to fredmiranda.com and do a search in the forums.
