I'm about to order the 350D on Amazon(along with something cheap to put me over the $1000 mark and get the $100 gift certificate). I want to spend that $100 on a CF card. Can someone tell me what the best CF card would be for the Digital Rebel XT?

This is my first DSLR camera and I'm moving up from a Sony Cybershot V1(yeah im ecstatic!). Just looking for some help. Thanks in advance.

The 1GB Lexar 80x WA CF card is $99 at B&H Photo and got good speeds in the 20D on a CF card testing site someone linked to the other day... sorry I don't have the link right now.

The only card that was faster was the Sandisk Ultra III card I believe, but it was barely faster.

Thanks but I need a CF card that I can order on Amazon since I will have a $100 gift certificate after ordering the 350D. Thanks though!

I went with the SanDisk Ultra II 1GB. $93 from Amazon and got good ratings on the 20D, which should be similiar in speed to the 350. (Don't have my camera yet so I can't prove anything. :) )

looks like I will just get the SanDisk Ultra II 1GB. Thanks for the help guys.

I wonder if the SanDisk Ultra III 1GB would make a big difference though? I didnt even know there was an Ultra III available. Any info on it?

If it's the same $100 gift card that I'm thinking of...You do realize it'll take 6-8 weeks for you to get that $100 gift card, right?

The Laxer Professional is 80x speed, so it is 12MB/s r/w transfer rate. I just got one for the XT (I will get that next week).
The Sandisk Ultra II is 60x speed, so it is 9MB/s r/w transfer rate.
The Sandisk Exterm is 66x speed, so it is 10MB/s r/w transfer rate.
The Sandisk Exterm III is 130x speed, so it is 20MB/s r/w transfer rate.

I don't think the Exterm III will out perform the Laxer Professional CF card because the 350D will not able to keep up with it (IMO). So save your money and buy the Laxer Professional.

The other thing to consider is pulling the pics off of the card and onto your computer. If you have a CF Firewire reader, you might notice a difference. But, maybe not a big enough difference.

I don’t think you need a Firewire CF card reader to achieve the throughput of the Extreme III CF card. The High Speed USB 2.0 is capable of burst 50MB/s data transfer rate (the Firewire is 40 MB/s sustained). It will do a very nice job. Just don’t plug the camera direct to your PC and expect the same performance though. Most new model cameras (including the 350D) now advertised to support USB 2.0. All that means is that they are compatible. Which really has nothing to do with the true high peed transfer rate or even come close to 15MB/s.

Then again, for people that uses a d-SLR and takes pictures in RAW with large file size. The in camera data transfer support is more or less redundant because we will all be using a card read. Right? At least I am.

Yeah, I know I am. I bought the Addonics Firewire CF reader and its working great. Even got it to work on my Dell Laptop with their adapter cable.

It'll be an even better test of my card reader once I get a "real" CF card versus the slow POS I have now. ;)
