these are interesting pictures but you need to either post a warning about their graphic nature in the header of your post or simply post a link with a description and warning so that people can view them if they so choose.

I personally don't find that offensive at all. You have to understand though, there are people from all different parts of the world with very sensitive views who frequent these forums. Your post while interesting, does not give a potential viewer any warning as to the content. Maybe you could remove the images from where ever you are storing them online and re-post with a warning in your subject line. Something like "WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES" would suffice. Anyway thanks for sharing. Joe

that this happens but i dont think it is an appropriate thread for a public forum. there are many people who are vegetarian or vegan who dont eat meat in the first place. and then there are many people who eat meat but would not want to watch such explicit pictures. hence the warning.

i would use the suggestion listed below - move or delete the pictures so that the urls you have linked to are no longer valid. this way they will not show up in your message any more.

next i would create an album on photobucket with your pictures. You can then post here and explain that you have a set of pictures about Eid but some of them are graphic as they relate to slaughter and leave a link so that people who are interested in seeing the pictures can click on the link and see them

It is nice to have documentary thread like this available on the forums, which help to show the cultures, customs, and people from many different parts of the world.

Though I understand some people's comments that a warning should be issued, it is wonderful to have access to such knowledge in a simple photography thread, instead of the usual scenic shots. It helps us all to understand eachothers differences and similarities and accept them, which we certainly need more of in the world.

From what I have been hearing, this is the most important of the Muslim holidays, and in a wonderful gesture, many of those practicing the rituals are donating the extra unused meats and skins to the tsunami-affected regions.

If all religions' followers were to donate their excess food used in their holiday rituals and celebrations, we could certainly help not only tsunami victims throughout the Indian ocean regions, but many other regions of the world affected by famine and strife. Just think how much food Christians waste during Christmas and Easter feasts, or Jews during Sukkat or Purim (like Eid Al-Adha, celebrations of Christmas and Purim traditionally do include charitable giving of food and gifts to the needy...but so much still goes to waste in each household).

Thank you for allowing us to see a special part of your culture and life. I hope Eid Al-Adha was good.

For those who do not know, the meat from the slaughter is traditionally shared - 1/3 to immediate family and relatives, 1/3 is given away to friends, and 1/3 is donated to the poor. The act symbolizes Muslims' willingness to give up things that benefit them or are important, in order to follow Allah. And it symbolizes willingness to give up share your bounties to strengthen friendship and help the needy. It is nice to know that very little goes to waste, making the slaughter of the animal purposeful and not just symbolic.

well Awais, i agree to the other members that it will be somehow difficult for them to see the slaughtered pics of goats espacially the first 2 pics with cut throat.this idea also comes to my mind to take pics and post it online but then i realize it will not be easy for nonmuslims to see these pics as it is not a part of their culture to slaughter animals for religous festivals.

As u know we have been watching these things since our childhood so its just normal for us.anyways how much meat u get form ur goat.we buy one on the first day of eid and got it for 6000.

I hope my explanation was accurate. I wish I was aware of everything in the world! I try to learn as much as possible about other countries, other people, other cultures, and other customs...it helps bring us all a little closer together at a time when too many in the world are drifting apart and hating eachother mostly based on assumptions and prejudices.

I always enjoy posts like yours to help with that learning!

Hi , I hope you remember that I was among the first to congratulate all of you for " Eid El- Adha " by placing the pics of cars transfering cows to where people would buy

Any way although I understand why people will not want to see blood shed and hence the warning , it suddenly occured to me that most posts assumed that this is a process carried only by muslims , actually it's not true ...!! But modern cities like in the West do not use these methods of slaughtering any more and of course buy their meat from supermarkets, on the other hand in the East it's not so unusual , for eg. we're Egyptian christians and every feast of St. Mary my uncle gathers the whole family and we'll do more or less the same.... also with a part for the family and the rest for the poor :) ... during the rest of the year we too buy from supermarkets :)
