Hi,

Is there an LCD monitor cover for the 1D mkII like there is for the Nikon DSLR? If so, can someone provide a link to where i can get one? Thanks.

Martin

Coming from Nikon myself, I asked the same thing when I changed to Canon. I was told the Canon screens are very durable and plastic covers are not needed. Naturally I disagreed and was skeptical.

I'll tell you, it definitely is not needed. It takes ALOT to put so much as a hairline scratch on the screens, unlike Nikon's soft screens that scratch when you rub it with your finger.

I have been using my 1DMKII since it came out in May, and I have yet to get any scratches on my screen. If it ever does get scratched, replacing it is cheap and easy.

A picture is no longer worth a 1000 words, it's worth about 5MB.

That's useful to know, Mike. As an ex-Nikon shooter myself (D1H/X/D2H) I have been asking myself that very same LCD question too.
Nice to know that I won't need to spend the cash on a Hoodman type device.
Have a great 2005

I bought a packet of LCD screen protectors from Jessops and cut one to fit my monitor just in case.

Don't even bother as others have said. Even if you do scratch it, the part isn't very expensive and easy to replace yourself.

Just expressing what others have said in another way.
It does scratch, but not too badly under normal use.

I've got one of these Oly protectors on both my 1D2 and 1Ds2, and also had it on my 10D and D60 before I sold them. Easy to apply, easy to remove, unobtrusive, cheap, long-lasting and tough. IMHO there's no reason NOT to apply one to every EOS digital SLR.

I'm not connected in any way with the company.

Have a Happy New Year too!

Rest assured the LCD screen is very tough. My LCD always bangs against my belt buckle and the rivets in my jeans when I am hiking around and nothing ever comes of it. Canon really got it right with the material when they made the LCD cover.

Everyone...........THANK YOU!! & a happy new year!!

such as myself, the clear PDA protectors work great and are almost undetectable. Made a template and cut it to fit.

I used one of these once. If the rain got to it, water would get trapped under it and make the display unusable until the water evaporated which took a long time. I took it off when I found out that the existing LCD cover is user-replacable. There's no way to avoid rain around here.

You are right, it is possible for water or specks of dirt to get trapped under it after a time. (I don't shoot in the rain often enough for water to be a problem for me...I've never had it happen.)

Solution: take a piece of dental floss, remove the protector, wipe off the inside and the Canon LCD cover, and put the protector back on with 2 fresh adhesive strips (about a dozen strips come with each one). Total time: 3 minutes. Depending on use, it needs to be done once or twice a year. I think of it as being like cleaning the sensor.

Anyway, some might not prefer the Oly, but I do. I'd rather put my nose against that than against Canon's cover.
