End of day / sky shots

You don't really need to use iso 100/200. 400 is fine. If you don't like the noise, the load the pictures into NeatImage and that should get rid of most if not all the noise, even if you use iso 1600.

Regards,

Paul.

Mushy,

Thanks for that excellent advice!! I nearly didn't post the pics because of the noise but just goes to show with this site that if you don't have a go there is a big chance you will miss out....

I read your post downloaded the software and this is what I got.

First photo (cloud bubbles) was at ISO 100 the others were at ISO 800 not 400 as I stated previously. Noticed my mistake when the info was shown for each image.

Wow! Big difference

Learnt two things - software available to reduce noice and it is worth posting your photo's (regardless) to get the advice.

Thanks again

Glad I could help. Did you shoot these in RAW mode? If so, you can adjust all sorts of things such as white balance AFTER the shot has been taken. Also, there are some really good sharpening tools out there also or you can try "Unsharp mask" in photoshop. Nearly every professional picture you see posted are already altered (post processed) in some way before they are posted. Also, the lens used makes a BIG difference (more than you think). The cheap 50mm 1.8 canon lens is one of the sharpest lenses you can buy without spending thousands of pounds. Great for portraits.

Best Regards and good luck with this great camera.

I haven't ventured into raw mode yet, went to a digital w/shop and on advice from a pro he suggested I get more familiar with the camera first. So that's where I'm at :O)

Have to be honest haven't really got my head around the photoshop elements had a bit of a play but nothing like the results I just got on the NeatImage software, that is a keeper.

My stepson is returning from Malaysia with Adobe photoshop full version will probably get a bit more involved with it then.

Put some money aside for photographer personal trainer but may have to use some of it towards the above lense have seen so many good posts on it... $180 au

Did ring the camera store the other day making enquiries and they had a 50mm 1.4 second hand for $225 au. That is tempting as well but just not sure on 2nd hand lense, they assured me they test the lenses thoroughly before they purchase from previous owner.

Hi,

The differences between the 1.4 and 1.8 are not very noticable in terms of quality.

Secondly, I wouldn't worry too much about second hand lenses. Most are fine as even dust/ minor scratches on the lens is not really noticable in amature photography.

Regards,

Paul.

I have to ask if you had the choice which would you take??

If I was you, then i'd take the 1.8.
