10D replacement goes into production....

A September announcement ...shipping in October/November
I have NO further information available whatsoever.
Isn't it obvious that Canon needs to respond to the Nikon D70?
Isn't the most likely time to do that at or near Photokina?
Doesn't Canon have a (recent) track record of bringing new models
to market within 2 or 3 months of announcement... or sooner?

I look into my crystal ball... yes, the sun will rise tomorrow...

"When" was the number-one question I had. Mr Pope answered it.
Now, the only problem is that I must have a digital SLR for an
event on October 29.
No problem. Go rent what you want for the day. You can probably get a 1Ds, 17-40L and 70-200 2.8L IS for under $150.

The REAL COST of renting nice equipment is then you'll want to OWN it!

I know you know the difference Jim,

You have been around here for a while and are one of the good guys.

I was typing in haste during a break at work, LOL

Have a good one,

Well, if you check Paul's announcements history, you would know
that he's right almost 80% of the time. The only thing he didn't
get right in the past is the new model's name; HOWEVER, the man
gets it right as the official announcement date gets closer.
Mohd,

Excuse me, I made my homeworks and did a search. I know now more who is this participant. I misunderstood his thread.

I thought it was just one more rumor about the new 10D. It seem that it was not that. Sorry. Daniel ;-)

Yes, that is absolutely the best advice. Rent what you need. After all, it's never a good idea to go to an important event with new equipment that you haven't had time to thoroughly test out or get used to. And besides, the last thing you need is to be stressing out about getting your new piece of equipment at the very last minute.
Dear Lee Jay
Thank you for your advice. I'll definitely use it if I can't get
the new camera by October 29.

Well, you never know. Canon could have decided that they were going to hold off until PMA in February, instead. Lots of things get announced at PMA instead of Photokina.

Paul is an Australian glamour photographer who always seems to know what's coming. I think he has an inside track but can't be overly specific as he said. If you like glamour shots, he's one of the best in the world.

Well, Paul has a very good track record with his predictions. I feel sure he knows someone with Canon who is willing to leak a little info.

I respect Adam T. and David P. but I wouldn't think they are on the inside track like Paul.

That's what I used to think was the likely timeline: I thought it would be 1Ds Mk II at Photokina and then the 10D/300D replacement next spring.

The Nikon D70 has changed all that - it really is THAT good. Canon needs to respond. My prediction is 1Ds MkII AND the 10D replacement both this fall.

Dear Paul & Friends
A September announcement ...shipping in October/November
I have NO further information available whatsoever.
What does an "October/November" ship date mean given that the new camera entered production today and that the new camera is going to be announced in September? If the new camera enters production today, isn't it a given that it'll ship by the end of the first week in October?

No, don't think they even pretend to--I think they were just cited by someone as heavily posting members that have been around for a long time that the poster above didn't know about--all in sarcasm I think LOL.

you will not get it october, november or december and you might get lucky if one is available at janurary.

best bet starting feburary 2005 before you can get on waiting lists under 40-70 users.

Hi,

Those who have been around for awhile know two things about Paul Pope

1) he has bought a frighteningly large amount of equipment from Canon Oz

2) has used it shoot some of our better looking locals.

Consequently, as a gesture of awe, Canon Oz keep him up to speed with all the latest inside news.

Therefore, I'm prepared to bet that something interesting for those who don't want/need to spring for a 1D MkII

Paul Pope has been right before, and I'd say he's right now. :)

If you look hard enough, you can usually find what you are looking for. After I sold my D30, I was on the wait list at the usual suspects for the D60. We were told at the time that there would be TONS of them. Well, anyone who has been here a while knows that the D60 was nearly impossible to get at first.

Prior to the D60 coming out, I had sold my d30s and had a bunch of weddings booked for May. The D60 was out well before May, but no one could get them. As I had forsworn myselv from ever using film again, I started aggressively trying to pick up a D60 to make sure that I would have a camera or two with plenty of time for me to test it out prior to using it in a real life situation. After WEEKS of irritation, I finally called Canon and they rattled off about 5 or 6 places in the NY area that were NOT B&H or Adorama that 'might' have them....On my first call, I found a small place in Manhattan who stated that they had one...next morning I went and they actually had two. So I bought both.

There are two morals to this story: (1) Never sell your only DSLRs - you really DON'T want to shoot with film, (2) If you are willing to look beyond the 'usual suspects' you might be able to find what you need on the quick.

The 10d production was MUCH better than the D60's and I hope that Canon will keep that part of it up.

That's downright demoralizing. Who's going to get the first ten
thousand copies?

I could take this thread and compare it with previous threads lead by Paul Pope. I understand the excitement and share it but please tell us some of the specs of the is new 10D ?

I mean you have to come out with something more than a statement the 10D will be announced this september. I dont doubt his credibility or accuracy and I do realise that such rumors are necessary for companies to sell products in these fora. But a sentence on such an issue doesnt really seem fair or informative.

Remember this?
"I have NO further information available whatsoever. "

If he new more, he'd tell us. He's done so before, just do a search on his name & spend all night reading his threads. You'll find that he's pretty accurate though. You might see some more when the camera gets closer to production.
