10D replacement goes into production....

One thing to notice with this "RUMOR" is ... he is Paul Pope, not
THE Pope... and even the Pope would not know this info...
he's not making a 'prediction'--he's relaying something--as far as he's able without compromising a source--and he's been just about right for several years on these forums (he mostly spends his time on the 1D forum). I've never figured out if its because he's in Oz land and closer to Japan or because he gets around with his commercial shoots and knows the right people or what--but, we all do listen when the 'pope' speaks.

If we are getting reliable leaks, it must mean it is close and they
are feeling pressure from Nikon. Otherwise, why leak? It will
only hurt 10D sales.

I just hope it is a good camera. If it is out by October, I will
wait and spend $$ to get one. Provided it is not over $1500 for
body only. $1700 is strecthing it. Anything more, I can't go
there unless I put cheap glass on an expensive camera...

Thanks for the news. Woe to Canon if they don't announce/release
something. It better be better than the 10D as well. (no feature
stripped 1D, must have similar or more features than 10D) If so, it
will sell amazingly. Just my uninformed, unaware amature opinion.
Either way, I can't wait.

your 10D works very well for you. And you're rights about the resolution. There are only so many pixels you need to convey the idea.

But, to be honest, I am very curious to see (just to see) what other magic Canon has put into the new camera. It's hard to beleive that it will be just higher resolution and lower price, I hope there is more...

People here don't ask "Who the heck Paul Pope is? Who he thinks he is?". The next thing you are going to ask "Who is Adam-T?" Or "Who was DavidP?".
Man, such a disrespect to this forum!!!

It's only a rumor if you define a rumor as anything other than an official announcement. But if you want to waste a bit of time you'll find that the fact is that Paul has a highly placed or fairly highly placed Canon contact who has proved very accurate over the years -- as he's described it these are something of controlled leaks. The last was the Canon 9900 a year before it was released as well as the 1D II.

To go to the content of your response, when you think about this, a LOT of people would know about the production line this since it takes many people and considerable time to set up and start one. It's not two guys in a garage. So no, it's not going to be that big of a secret. I'm sure Nikon knows all about it. :-)

I see this as confirmation of what we've been hearing now for a few months. I'm just hoping it really turns out to be a 1.3 factor with the same sensor as the 1D II -- the lower density would really help with the noise.

Hi Uly,

How are you enjoying your 1D II? I've noticed you're making good use of it. Let's see, last year you were wondering if a dSLR was a good way to go because of the high cost of lenses. This year you're probably figuring out where to put that 200 f/1.8!

On the lineup front, I think the French article about a Canon dSLR at around $500 would, if true, shake things up even more. Price pressure is getting intense. Except for you pros of course, you can pay $5000 for a cam without a thought in the world! :-)

It will be interesting to see how Canon's complete lineup will be
positioned by December 2004. :-)

Hehe... you are funny... now kneel down in front of him and kiss his feet... The forum is about asking questions... and if I want to ask who he is, just answer that... so that I can also rely on his information. And yeah, who are Adam-T and DavidP? Simple questions... sure they have simple answers... and by the way... I did not ask who the HECK and who HE thinks he is... so YOU try to be more respectful..... sometimes I wish I had ppl like you in front of me... I am sure the people who run this forum are a bit more mature than you are. Thanks

I don't think any of us (ar at least most of us) can NOT be curious. And--I have to admit I'm as techny as the next one. Everytime something new is about to come out, I have to restrain myself from checking often. I used to have this forum as my home page---I DID get over that LOL. Nonetheless, when you are self employed and near a computer much of the time, its not easy to resist hitting that bookmark--and checking. As we get close to PHotokina, we'll all be hitting this site a lot. And--it won't get inroduced any sooner than whatever day they have already decided upon--no matter how much we check.

I too, don't think it will just be MP and ETTLII (and lower price--not even sure if it WILL be lower price if they decide to fill the gap between 10D and MkII)---I had long hoped for a 3D equivalent--which would be exactly what I want, but I print 13 x 19 often now, so that really won't get me too much more. About 10MP would be about right for most of my personal work giving me more detail in landscapes--and I MAY be able to hang on until then--and then again, maybe not LOL.

you haven't run across threads by these guys. Before they split the Canon SLR forums, PP was here often--now you'll find him in the 1D forum. He's a longtime professional member from Australia. Adam-T spends a lot of his time on the Canon lens forum--he can give you honest answers (from his perspective) about most Canon mount lenses one way or the other LOL. He is also a professional living in Wales. DavidP is an advanced amateur I guess--does a lot of country/western concerts, owns a LOT OF Canon L lenses and at one time had the record for the most posts to this forum of anyone--on any forum. He was banned several times--the last time seemed to have stuck. You'll find him on FM forums, probably several others. He's opinionated as the devil and was known (along with some others) for prolonging many threads about AF with the 10D (though he owns a 1D and probably a 1DMkII by now). He was always good about answering most everyone's questions--and is quite knowledgable.

These are 3 longtime forum members--just keep your eyes open and you'll see them--or references TO them on all the Canon forums.

NOw--does that help LOL????

Alfonso,

I would venture a gues that you'll be eating some crow in Spetember. Paul isn't some man off the street throwing bombs. He's connected and he's been right before.

We shall see...

The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear.

As I recall, the actual release of the 10D didn't depress the price of new D60s any more than the anticipation of it already had. And new ones quickly vanished when the 10D appeared on the shelves. Prices for D60s didn't go down until the well-worn ones started appearing.

I would say that your best bet for the best tech at the best price is a 10D probably right now.

He has connections with canon so if this tidbit is out you can be sure september = new 10Dmk2

What's "useless" about it is that Photokina is in September, so news that Canon would announce a new model of a year-old DSLR just before or during Photokina is about as unexpected as zits on an adolescent.
