When - next Canon 10D camera upgrade ?

I decided that the Nikon D70 is not the right camera for me and
returned it to the shop. I am used to a Canon. I will most likely
settle for the 10D.
Annette
I think that if you buy the 10D now, you will not disapointed. I got it in March and many rumors was already here about a New 10D. It was difficult for me to received (in Canada) I used a demo for near two months. In meantime the D70 arrived.

The sellers gave me the choice to take a D70 or to wait for the 10D. I continued to use the demo and decided to wait «my» 10D.

Finally I received my 10D. No regret to not took the D70. I am sure that it is a good camera but I love the 10D and I cannot really find anything wrong with this camera since. A new 10D in 2 months : nothing that I can do now that i cannot do after...

May be you can wait but if you decide to go to the 10D, you will be happy. My opinion. I am a big fan of the 10D now.

Does anybody know whether there is a 10D camera upgrade due in the
near future or whether the current model will still be around for
some time ?
Thanks,
Annette
Stopped by B&H the other day...the guys there seems very knowledgable!

They look for some upgrade in the spring of 2005. Some tweaks here and there. Canon seems commtted for CMOS...so just some minor changes could be expected.
Who knows?

well hopefully it will get leaked before then. I'm one of those waiting to jump in when the replacement is introduced. For once in my life I would like to be at the beginning of a product life cyle.

All my information is that the 10D update will be shown at Photokina.

Sorry folks, that Photokina is the place and time is all I have heard so far about the 10D, not a sniff yet as to whether update or replacement - and no update for the 1Ds this time round.

Logic tells me that Canon will update the 10D, or at least use the same body, though.

... if it uses some lesser crop factor like 1.3 ;)

I thought about faster and less accurate AF ;)
You can get less accurate AF with ease - just tint the AF sensor mount, I doubt it could get you any faster focus though :)

Seriously, an updated AF sensor and processing algorythms could get us more accurate focus, but the focing speed will remain the same in normal light, because it's entirely dependent on the lens motor.

I wouldn't mind additional central points though.

BTW, is the AF sensor is the same as in 30V/300V/3000V, or it's custom made for digital bodies?

only think i don't like is the 7-point AF; would reeeeeeeeeeally
like some corner AF points; but i kinda doubt that's coming in this
line. canon wants us to line-upgrade, not model-upgrade.
Are you kidding? I would like the disable the two side points at
all as they often focus out of subject. The only addition I
welcome is 4 or more AF points around the central area.
The Contax full-frame digital sensor camera had a central focus point and 4 other points at the "rule of thirds" intersections.

Nikons can project a rule of thirds grid on the screen, but for some reason it has not occured to them to put the focus points on the intersections.

sorry - that's what i meant by "corner" - in the upper/side third zone. the upper/middle zone af points annoy me terribly, because they're just-a-little-too-low whenever shooting portraits.

i think i'd be happy with only four points - center, right (upper for portait) and right high/low (upper side/side for portrait). i almost never use 4 of my 7 points at the moment.

Unofficially people from Canon told me we should expect new DSLR on September, but with no confirmation id it is new camera or upgrade.

Sure, it's not a 1DII, but for 99% of what most SLR shooters need, it's there.
I've had a D60 for 14 months, then a 10D in March of 2003, and I love my camera.
The 10D gave me everything the D60 couldn't, and I'm very happy with it.

If you want a camera now, get the 10D. It's an incredible deal in my opinion,
and will do nothing but improve your photography. It's made to be easy to
manipulate and carry around. Quick in changing modes, ISO, shutter speed/
apertures, etc.

Now, if they widen the sensor a bit (1.3) or add spot metering, it would tempt me.
But we'll see. I have more invested in lenses and my MF equipment than the body
anyway, so if a 10D replacement comes out and it is reasonably priced, the 10D
will go to ebay and I'll get the upgrade.

Ken
I'd get a 10D now - it's an amazing camera and will give you the
feel the Nikon can't....
