New firmware for S1

I don't seem to see any difference in the zoom response either. I had little trouble adjusting to it initially though.

Lisa
Ditto me - see earlier message.

Forgot to mention - someone in this thread felt that the upgrade
changed the zoom response ie made it easier to control?

Not for me. No difference. Placebo efffect?

Stan
I just downloaded the file to a CF card, put that in the camera,
and did the upgrade. Worked like a charm.

Lisa
Anybody tried this upgrade, any problem with it?

Folks,

My quick take on the new firmware:

1. I've never installed any of the Canon software -- I use a
firewire card reader.

2. I managed to keep it that way -- I just copied the fimware
files onto the root directory of my card, and the S1 saw them and
gave me the menu item to upgrade the firmware.

3. Worked like a charm.

4. The "continuous mode focus" issue is much improved. Remember
my "vintage auto races" pictures? I'd focus on that corner, and
wait for the cars to come through. Well, if I tried to focus while
a car was in the corner, the S1 would "freeze" on the car, which
would quickly speed out of my focus range, and so it would have big
trouble focusing. Well, now with this upgrade, I focused on a few
cars driving by, and it just keeps the image moving, and it focuses
much better. A wonderful improvement!

5. My impression of the "overexposure" fix is that it's only if
you're using the "flash synchronization" feature. I've never used
it, so I can't tell you anything about that.

6. Oh boy, you betcha, it does seem that the zoom works better
now. It seems that you can push quite a bit more and still stay in
"slow" mode, and there's more of a distinct change to the "fast"
mode when you get there. I sure notice a lot better control over
the thing.

7. As Martha would say from her cell, "it's a good thing!" :-)

I did it today, and indeed, it fixes the display freeze problem.
Haven't had a chance to check the overexposure problem.

I just downloaded the file to a CF card, put that in the camera,
and did the upgrade. Worked like a charm.

Same way here...

This is EXCELLENT!!
It's a whole new ballgame without the freeze!!
WooHoo!!
;-)))))))

I have experienced the same. Only about half a second freeze after focus lock prior to the fix. It sounds strange that people had a complete freeze. It means that they could never recompose after focus lock in continuous mode. Very strange.

Hi, MaxinAus

Maybe you were a black dot exception and never did have "The
Freeze"? Many of us experienced the deadly green rectangle of doom
freeze. The view froze at the green rectangle episode until the
shutter was pressed.

Maybe it was more prevalent up here, where the four seasons are
cold, cold, cold, and damned cold. Got this from a friend in Perth
who said his four were hot, hot, hot, and damned hot!!

Cheers,

Have just updated my camera, but I will not agree with statement
above. When green retangle appeared, my camera only frooze for
about a half second. Now, it never freeze.

See you!
