Now, this happened at 7:45AM in a parking lot of a Tim Horton shop in Laval.

I was coming back from the restaurant with a coffe in my hand and proceded to unlock the car's door when I come across an old friend of mine (did not see him for at least 3 years).

We started to chat and Blah Blah Blah ...

My car was running (thanks to my auto starter, I can AC the car before getting in) and the doors were all unlock but mind you, I was standing about 4 feet away in front of the car (always facing the car because the 3 bags I carry with photo equipment were in it).

Now check this out ...

I see this morronick jer* getting near the car, looking it up for content and proceding to open the passenger's door. I am in shock that this guy did not notice me standing about 5 feet from him. My friend got to him first (in the back of him of course) and I zap on his side and ask him:

-- Do you need any help ? -- he replies ...
-- No no, it's fine I am just getting my camera to take a picture -- ...
(one bag was open as I always leave a camera ready to shoot)

So far so good ...

I then told him: -- This is my car and my equipment buddy ... but before I could finish my sentence, he tries to escape but unfortunately for him, my huge friend (6' 3' -- 240) was behind him and glue him to the floor ... I took my cell phone, called 911 and had the police in very quickly to arrest him (remember, this was a donut restaurant, there is always a police car next to them).

Police asked me if I wanted to press charges (knowing that he did not take anything from the car but attempted to ...) I said yes why not.

Moral of the story, I am happy I was not alone where I would have probably lost it and kicked the hell out of him (even though, I am not the violent type) and asked questions after ...

Well, this is for Jonathan F ... 1 crook catched up, several to go ...

Good story its good to hear when crooks get what they deserve. Just not enough stories like that unfortunately.

Hey Yves, lucky it was ur car ,smart crim they know 50% of the public are not looking and caring ,he gave a good answer to your question,
did he say what he was going to photograph ?
l wouldve nearly killed him myself l completly HATE HATE theives.

For a young guy lve had quite a bit of gear/tools/motorbike/whitegoods/cash/stereo/trust/etc/etc stolen.
lock up the theives long enough to hurt,or let me throw rocks at them.

I saw a discovery channel documentary on this, typical criminals and there brain-patterns, it turns out some of those guys really have a few screws missing up there, they just don't get excited and have no shame (physically) built in, very weird.

He will be out of the police hands very fast unfortunately.

He'll also be more careful when entering a car I guess.
Glad to know that there's one less camera thief around (or at least
one failed camera theft)... well done my friend :)

glad it all worked out well and yes, definitely press charges...you have witnesses...probably he already has a record, so hopefully he will get what he is due!

I would have bought some extra doughnuts for my own reward after that!
