Hi Canon People,

Long time, no see. I just read the 1D Mk II review in Petersen's Photographic and was impressed. I read Phil's review and remain impressed. I'd been looking forward to the release of the Nikon D2x, but I wonder if I'm waiting for a camera that doesn't exist, while a gem is here now.

Here's my request:

Those of you who have 1D Mk IIs, could you post a link to your online gallery with a quick note of what lenses you prefer (L series, I'd guess) with it and how ecstatic you are with your new rig.

Thanks.

EF 50 f1.4 USM
EF 17-40mm f4.0 L USM

All of my lenses do a great job with my new 1DII.

Together with the 70-200mm I even get a free full upperbody
work-out ;-D

Go to http://www.tom-crowning.com/search/search.php

and select the MK2 as camera. I just have it for a couple of days so there are not very much photos available yet.
Regards,
tc

PS: the MK2 doesn't report the information I need to search for a specifiy lens (Canon excluded this information, with the D60 you can search for the camera AND a specific lens). Thanks Canon :-/

is that I believe the camera you have makes a statement as to what you want to achieve with your photography. I think the work being produced with this camera is very different from the work being produced with a 300D or D70. I think if a client asked me what camera I was using, I'd be proud to say 1D Mk II. I don't think I'd make as much of an impression with a D70 or 300D, something that everyone has.

On top of that, this seems like a fabulous camera.

Let's see some more!

Hi Todd,

Most of the images on my site are with the 1D (for the past 2 years) and the D30 before that, but I have a few 1DMkII images that might interest you.

The first is of interest because it is an ISO 3200 shot. Taken at dawn, light was very limited, and I needed 1/500 second and f/8, and the only way to get that was 3200 ISO. I was shooting with the 600L/f4 IS and 1.4x II Teleconverter. I don't think my original 1D would have cleaned up nearly this nicely. I have it printed at 12x18 and is pretty impressive:

This image was taken with the same lens combo, and illustrates the benefit of the 8 megapixels resolution, as this crop represents about 10% of the original image area.

The superior high ISO performance and the doubled resolution are two of the strong-points of this camera, especially relative to the original 1D.

Hope this helps!

Very nice work, Don!

I really wanted to make sure my enthusiasm over this camera was justified. I believe it is. The resolution and speed are so impressive!

Thanks for the reply,

the color I'm seeing in a lot of the galleries I've seen so far. Is that an outgrowth of the new CMOS sensor and DIGIC II processor?

I've had the M2 for less than a month and I am still struggling with it. Many more options than on my D60 (or the 10D) and I find that I ocassionally press something that makes an unexpected change to the settings, and not knowing what I did, it requires going back the the manual or waiting till I get out of the field and have time to review all the options once again. And, despite much reading and trial, I am still not confident that I have it set up optimally. I'm not going to advise you which way to go, but it won't hurt you to have a long look at the 10D and start investing in L glass. My galleries are here:

http://www.pbase.com/sadja

The M2s are the last 4 galleries.

98% of the images are from the MKII using 50 1.4, 28-70 2.8 & 70-200 IS 2.8

In some cases I have had to use fill flash, and that can get heavy with the 70-200 when you have shoots that lasts 3 to 4 hours.

http://www.onemodelplace.com/pepito

By the way, the other 2% are from a D100.

These were taken at the Historics Race this past May. Most of the shots were taken with my 70-200 f/4 others with my 300/4 28-135 and 17-40/4

Hi,

Here's the link to my gallery.

Since my new toy is only one week old, I have still a lot to practice.

One of the most stunning aspects of this camera is the lack of noise at high iso.
