Amber Waves of Grain (IMGS)

Cool skies, herc.

I presume that's a polarizer at work?

....Ed....
OK, more like Green-ish yellow waves of grain this time of year,
but getting close!

BTW, when you link to Pbase, what size pic do you tlink to?
(Medium, Large?).

All shots with Sigma 15-30/D100, taken in Kansas this weekend.

Wow, that is quite a dramatic sky. I assume you used a split ND
filter, correct? Nice pictures.

Gordon
Actually a Cokin P Series Graduated ND 8 (wow, that's a mouth full)
held in front of the lens.
Man, need an edit in this forum :) I meant to post this to the next post down.

I actually used this lens for the 1st year with no ND filter (just picked this one up last week) and am kicking myself for not getting it MUCH sooner.

How do you like the 15-30? Looks like you're getting the most out
of it.
It's a tad soft, but its not a big deal on the shots I take with it (no good for people pictures though). Also need to crank up the contrast in PS a bit, but I need to experiment some more to see of I can change some in camera settiings to get it a little better.
Other than that, I LOVE it. It is rapidly becoming one of my most used lenses.
Oh, and the Grad ND filter is a must with this lens...

Thanks! It was your great work that inspired me to get this lens, and I am certainly not disappointed, thanks for commenting.

Have the colours been saturated? They surely look it. Whichever way, these photos look great.

I'm considering buying this lens myself. Some of the work others have posted to date have been nothing but exceptional with this lens. There goes more money.....

The colors have been saturated using the DV Pro Action, but the curves are really what brought out the colors.

I always wonder if the DV Pro is going to far, but I really like the vibrant look.
Thanks for the comments.

This sure is a great lens, and cannot be beat for the price.

I'll have a look at one of those ND filters next time I'm in the shop.

I've known of them before, but this sort of effect just begs for some extra attention.
Very nice wide angle photo, good subject & color!

Cheers,

Thanks! I have already dropped the ND filter about 15 times, and scratched and chipped it in a bunch of places, but you can bet I will replace it now. I meant to get an ND2, but got an ND8 by mistake. I was surprised to see the 8 be almost perfect. Might be worth having a 4 in tbe bag too (a 6 might be just what the doctor ordered, if they make such a thing).
Cheers,

Are you using the ND on the front? Not dropped into the rear filte slot? What do you use to hold the filter in the front if that is the way you are doing it? Using the lense cap filter threads seems to take away some light from the corners at the 15mm end.
Thanks and again very nice deep pictures.
Oh what is the dv pro action? link? =)

I am holding the Filter (Cokin P Series) in front of the lens (only dropped it a bunch of times so far :) It's pretty hard on the filter (the way I do it) as I am constantly dragging it up and down the front (oh, and dropping it :)

It causes no Vignetting, and I am for the most part able to keep my big fat fingers out of the way.

The DV Pro action is the Fred Miranda Version (not free) but I have recently seen a ton of links for all kinds of free actions (I think a search on Velvia would do it). Most of these pictures are Level 1 through 4 out of like 12, so you can REALLY make the colors pop, so the Miranda actions are certainly worth the $$.

Have you tried cutting the filter and dropping it in the rear slot yet?
Thanks for the info on the filter and action, very nice effect.
